If you plan on running efi at all in the future or currently run it, for ease of tuning most recommend a max lift of .550. Any brand that you are leaning towards as you do your research will have a cam that will fit your bill. Maybe try calling some hotlines, getting part number tips, then post them here to see what people think of the "pro's" choices.

I had Jones cam designs (Mike Jones) do a custom cam for my 393. IF you email him and give all your engine details he can make a cam specific for your needs. Just go to his website and submit. He answers fairly quick and I had mine in 3 weeks after payment.

What heads are you running?

I still like the stock 5.0 HO mustang cam. Doesn't have the name drop appeal of an aftermarket cam but is fairly decent for power and drivability.

Hi fellow Bronco lovers', was wondering what the best brand cam for low end torque and overall performance?

Brand is not a factor......

Everyone will tell you to run what they have because it's the best.... :)

The factory roller block cam for the explorer and the pickups is a darn good torque cam. I ran it for a while....
Explorer F4TE-6250-BA Hydraulic Roller
Intake at 1.6 rocker ratio .422" lift 256 duration
Exhaust at 1.6 rocker ratio .448" lift 266 duration
1.7 rockers is .449 intake and .476 Exhaust
116 lobe separation

I've since moved up to this one. Note this cam comes in at 1500. I'm all street.....I just pose as a offroader. This cam VERY close to the "stump puller" cam the NoCal guys all rave about.
Comp 35-349-8/XE264HR

Find what is available before you choose. most of the cams choices that I wanted are not available for another few months. I had to find a set ala carte and finding available roller lifters is a problem also. brand new and they still were bad.
do a search before you decide.
Comp cams I did 3 returns
Howard cam has some roller cam choices along with roller lifters
Edelbrock set is out a few months..

The Comp Cam XE258HR-12 is a very nice Torquey Cam. .208, .216 duration at .050 and .533, .544 Lift. This now my favorite Windsor Cam.

I have also have had the XE264HR which is also very good, it just needs a little more RPMs.

Mine came out of a 96 E350. I changed to GT40P heads as one of the E-7 heads was cracked. Special headers required......

The E-7's can make good power. The P's are better. Anything you can do to bump up the compression is good. As I recall those year 351W's were like 8.5-1 compression. I decked my block and heads to clean them up and the smaller chamber P's got me to 9-1

The P heads (maybe the E-7's too) will need springs if going bigger than the stock cam. I think you have more room for error with the E-7 springs.

Comp cams has software to let you "try" out cams using the software.
