I don't know much about the Dana 20's is this a better Dana 20 to go with? The guy has a drum Dana 44 from a 71. Both need a lot of love he wants 400 for both

The D20 is really no different than any other up to mid '73. Those all have the deeper low range gears. I like the later J shift rails and front output shaft better than the T counterparts but they are all fine to use. Typically, I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a stock D20. They are too easy to find.

D44's are tougher to find and probably worth $300 in good shape and complete. Worth more if it had disk brakes.

What you think the Dana 44 is worth

I paid $200 for one in about the same condition.

I wouldn't go over $300, and would offer less to start.

Prices for them are higher in the Rust Belt and California.

Are the radius arms included?
That would add value.

It's in tucson AZ I believe it's for even the radius arms but I don't need them if I'm just swapping it with a Dana 30 correct?

You won't need them for that, but you can find a buyer for them and recover some of the cost of the axle.

Don't worry about the rust on the outside. Worry about any rust on the inside. If water can get into them through an open vent hole or speedo hole it would have almost no chance of making it back out. That trapped moisture will cause damage (pitting mainly) to any finely machined surfaces. You should ask to remove the covers and take a look inside before buying. If there's rust on just the diff gears and you don't plan to use that ratio it's no big deal.

$400 on Tucson CL. As others noted if you can get the radius arms with it, they can be a little bit of a rebate. And check out the guts like Viper mentioned. Good price in these parts.

Didn't think about that was so concerned about the outside. I'd plan to change the bearings and seals as well convert to disc brakes. If water got in it spending. 400 bucks for a casing doesn't seem worth it. I asked him if he would be will to pop the pan and check. Answer was "it's been sitting for 12 years I'm sure it's gonna need some work"

If it's full of water (doubtful in AZ, but you never know) it may not be worth anything. Tell him the only way you'll buy it is if you can take the cover off first to verify it's even rebuildable.
