also, the factory carbs were not all that nice. ive had a bunch of NOS ones over the years and they were not multi colored and cadmium plated. just plain zinc and bare aluminum. over-restored is cool it just depends on how correct the build is.

I agree with the over doing a restoration and requested no soda blasting. The new aluminum carbs were a smooth grey color, not the frosty almost white color. Many of the zinc and steel parts were dichromate plated on Ford and Holley carbs. The aluminum was just grey. Some steel parts were just bare steel grey. Again not frosted. Just the same, Jon Enyert and Kurt Praxl carbs look great.

I don't know that I'm over doing it? I just want the carb to look a certain way. I'm putting this truck back together "all '66", but it's not going to be like it rolled off the factory floor. For example, I'm chroming the bumpers when this one had white bumpers off the line. Heck, I'm even changing the color of the truck. '66 bumpers and a '66 color, but different than it was when it rolled off the assembly line. This isn't going to be a "point winner". It's a truck that I'm going to drive a LOT around town, so I want it to look a certain way. Don't know if that makes sense or not, but it's how I'm going to do it. Here's the "look" I'm going for on my carb. This is a pic from http://www.kpcarbs.net/ - $165 for a rebuilt and completely restored carb (including zinc-dichromate). I dunno... looks cool to me.

Get a hold of Phillip at The Carb Shop at 732-356-0345. I had excellent results using him against John's work from Pony Carb. Both are equal in workmanship. Philip is reasonably priced and his work and plating is exceptional! He plated all the linkage and springs for me on the 289.

Btw, when John was doing the 1100s for me when he was around, he claims he would re-engineer something with those carbs. Cant remember what it was though. All I know is the 1100s I had him do for me run awesome! You may want to ask Phillip as well. I believe Phillip either knew John or may have worked for him at one time.

This is exactly the look I'm going for on a rebuild.

I went rounds with this guy. I would never let him touch another carb of mine. I ended up having to go through my carb again when I got it back. Really all I wanted was the parts re-plated. I was very specific about what I wanted when I sent him a very low mileage never been touched carb(as close to NOS and complete as it gets). What I got back was nowhere near what I had asked for and had been modified destroying it's originality. Half of the original parts(which there was nothing wrong with) were missing and there was still soda or whatever his blasting media is in the passages. He pulled some line of crap about artistic license and pretty much told me it was his way or the highway and now that I had "messed with his work" I was on my own.
