Centech Harness Tech Issue

Hi all!

I installed a NOS Centech Bronco harness and am hearing completion. Testing things as I go, I can not get the turn signals to work!

Parking lights - good
E-flashers - good
Brake lights - good
Parking lights - good (I think)

Turn signals (front and rear) refuse to work. Column has a new t/s switch. I also remapped all of the column wires to the Centech harness.

Advice / guidance / help appreciated!! I feel like this is something dumb, but can’t quite figure it out!

Just to get this out of the way, you are turning the key to ON or ACC first. Correct?

Aside from that, the steering column is by far the most finicky part of a harness install it seems!
But the first thing I would do, would be to swap the flashers between the hazards and turn signals. Just to rule out a defective flasher.
Yes, I know they're new. But that's beside the point.

When you flip the turn signal switch to either side, does that side's indicator lamp in the dash light up? What about the 4-way flashers? Lights in the dash flash?

Ignition switch is on. I made that mistake initially and got excited it was my error - no dice.

T/s gauge lights - when the t/s lever is moved, the t/s indicator turns on but is a steady flow, not a flash as I’d expect.

4-way flashers and t/s indicator t/s cluster lights flash when the column mounted switch is pulled out.

I’ll try swapping the flasher unit - have some spares for unknown reasons!

Thanks for the ideas!

Do you have BOTH blinkers installed? One for hazard, and one for turn.

No. Think that will be the difference? I only have one side hooked up plus both rear tail housing assemblies.

Note - the rear turn signals aren’t flashing either.

Thanks for the ideas here. I’ll hook up the other side and test again.

Here’s a thought - I have LEDs in the tail light housings, grill turn signals and the dash cluster. The only incandescent are side markers and headlights. Will that affect things? I’ve heard a diode or hidden incandescent bulb creates the needed resistance for things to light correctly.

What exactly do you mean by one side hooked up?
And yes, that would be a difference! They are two separate units. One handles the hazard flashers, and the other handles turn signal duties.
The hazards have power all the time, the turn signals only have power with the key.
Without the turn signal flasher, you get no flashing. Period…

And yes, installation of LED lights is often a culprit in some strange goings-on.
I always recommend staying with standard bulbs until everything is sorted. Then install LEDs. That way you know everything is working and it’s not because of the LEDs that something is not working.
For now, with a fresh full harness install, I would reinstall standard incandescent bulbs, then test everything. If it works, then you can start changing to LEDs.
Many are polarity sensitive, and may just need to be reversed. Some only go in one way of course, so you just have to hope that those are wired correctly internally.

1/2 way to everywhere
OEM turn signal flashers are designed around an engineered load of the turn indicator and the two turn signal bulbs and side marker lights if also designed to flash. Without this load on the flasher, it will not flash. This is to let the operator know that a turn signal bulb is not working. LED lights do not pass the same amount of current as an incandescent bulb and therefor will not operate the turn signal flasher.
4-way flasher is not designed the same. It flashes no matter what the load is.
