So, what's the significance of needing an adapter harness for the ignition switch with the Centech harness? Why wudnt it come from Centech ready to plug into factory ignition switch?

Is the switch that it comes with the centech better than the factory switch or something?

I was thinking the same thing. Must be made for a "generac" ing switch, and that is then adapted to the Bronco sw.

I wouldn't say it's better at all, far from it. No idea why they did it that way, but someone might know. I used the adapter and got a new cylinder, works great.

I installed the Centech harness approx. 13 years ago and they didn't have any option then. The switch that was supplied with the kit is junk, back then there was a company that was making a factory looking bezel to make it fit into the factory hole, but it is not a good ignition switch. It can be manipulated to work with several other keys I have that are of similar design. I am about ready to order the Ford harness and key and start looking for the old bezel. Other than that though the harness was great quality. I wish they would of corrected the headlight harness to a relay in there kit also.

When I first started using the centech harness I did not like the "garden tractor" switch. Besides not using a ford key it was necc. to either make a new hole in the dash or put a big washer on the switch to keep it from falling through the stock dash hole. I called centech and it was their opinion that the stock ford switch was prone to catching on fire. I have been working on fords for 50 years and never seen one catch on fire and was able to convince them to make an adapter. We include it when we sell a harness but it is or was a $40 option. They might include it in all harnesses now.
