Is it possible to change the rear main seal on a 73 Bronco with an automatic transmission, without removing the engine? My neighbor has changed quite a few of them on his collection of Chevrolets and gas offered to do it but hasn’t done a Ford.

Do you know if it’s a one piece or two piece seal? Also, if the flex plate mounting bolts were note treated with thread seal of some type, they leak and it displays as a failing seal.

you'll have to raise the engine some to get the oil pan off, and then loosen the main caps to drop the crank a bit. Might have to raise the engine a bit to make that happen. The two piece seal sort of slides in once the crank is in, but with the trans bolted up there isn't much room to work.
I've done it, total PITA.

Yes. As long as the engine hasn't been replaced with A 5.0.
That's the best part of an early block.
Take your time and clean your seal surfaces with Chem tool or lacquer thinner before applying sealant.
If you're in this deep, you'll need this book.

If you unbolt the upper end of the track bar ,and raise front of vehicle up and support with jack stands on frame to let the front diff go to full drop the oil pan will drop out ,,sometimes one hang up will be the front cross member where they weld it together there welded a little messy and the bead sticks out to far and catches the front lip of the pan..If someone changed out the rope seal to the two piece lip seal there usually easier to remove .if they did make sure the pin has been removed from the bearing cap where the seal sits ,,if one piece then trans comes out or pull engine,,
