Good luck I went at it three times last fall n finally got on the third try...

That lil lip of metal sure was a buger on the upper part of the two piece seal.

Took it for its test drive... Runs great, super happy... Park it and proceed to watch drops off oil coming from behind the pan in between the dust shield. Really disappointed but glad I gave it a try. I used the straw trick to make sure the seal didn't tear when I put it in... So my guess is that when I pushed the offset seals together when putting in the rear main cap, something tore or didn't mate up right. I used the anaerobic sealer and took the pin out.

I will be giving it one more try and think it will go faster since I won't be messing with getting the rope seal out. I also won't have gobs of rtv to scrape off since I just dabbed the corners.

If I do file the block where do I do it and what type of file do I use?

I am going to reuse all my fresh oil too.

Did you remove the pin that keeps the rope seal from spinning from the lower half of the bearing cap? That will damage the neoprene seal.

Thumbs up for attempting this yourself. I've become a better swimmer by jumping in over my head once in a while!

I used a round file (chainsaw chain sharpner) where you start in the top half of the seal.

Just a lil to kinda knock the bur off.
