Ok guys here we go. These are the unchangeables: 302, C4, no lift, 33x12.5, cut. She wants a Ford orange with White top and flares. It starts as a sport package, so we'll probably stick with the sport trim package.

Krawlers Edge, Thomas Kincer will be doing the build. So he'll help me decide how the build goes also. His knowledge is more than enough to do the build, we've decided to do this just because we think it'll be fun and hope you all enjoy it. We are gonna have to move fast to have it at the Super, but i'm confident we can pull it off. Here's the rig and the disassembly.

Also keep in mind that I do want to keep it as economical as possible.

Here we go.

THE BUILD:

C4
302
EFI---?????
Cam-TBD
Hydroboost brakes

More dissasembly. I probably need to mention again that it's a vehicle to run around town without having to drive the kid hauler, Denali. So it won't be getting off road unless it's by mistake.

Rig is disassembled and tub and metal is blasted.

Ok, so first lets talk about the motor. Not carb or EFI yet, just the rebuild.

What do you think I should do to the engine, ie stock cam, mild, or roller? How about pistons, lifters etc?

I'm all for EFI.
And not to be picky, but can you see if you have any larger pics.
When those are opened they are to small for these old eyes to see anything.

From what I can see you have a great start.

Now back to the ideas.

You are in good hands, Thomas will do you right. And if anybody can pull off the build and have it ready for the Super Celebration, it is him. I seen him work many long days and nights to get Black Pearl to the Super Celebration last year and yours is already further along than BP was at this time last year.

I'm loving this group build idea volnut!

Efi for sure.
Sneak in a 1.5" coil up front and some f250 shock mounts.
Clean it all up super nice.
Warflares.
Protofab bumpers front/rear.
Full cage for safety.
Paint and body.
Done.

Roller motor... Cant say much for specs still new to the ford thing lol... Platinum silver with black accents would be sweet if at all interested in color combos.. Kind of a update version of the black and silver broncos made in the early 80's... Still miss our old one :/ ... darn blow outs...

You've done more in a few day's than I've done in years. If you keep this pace up you won't have any problems making it. nice starting point.

For your purposes I'd keep it as stock as possible, bar EFI, for the main reason of keeping it predictable and reliable. Get into performance engine mods and I think it's just a can of worms that might go wrong, when your not making anything intended to win races anyway. KISS Engineering, Keep It Simple Stupid.

A stock 302 will still put a smile on your face when you mash the skinny pedal, does me every time. ;D

For the cam, you really should decide carb/EFI for best results. A carb doesn't care but EFI likes the HO firing order better. If you already have a good flat tappet block, use it. There is a better RV cam selection for flat tappet cams without having to custom grind. Using a cam with good bottom end and smooth idle will make the C4 real driveable and more fun around town. Hypereutectic pistons with molly rings is my choice. They are more forgiving than cast aluminum and they are a lot cheaper than the forged ones. For heads, I like iron. You're building a 4X4 not a race car. I've seen too many with stripped threads especially the hard to start header bolts. If you still want performance, you can get a good set of Windsor JR heads just about as cheap as a rebuild on a set of stock heads. And don't just buy the heads and throw them on. You need to make sure the valve springs are correctly set up for your cam. Talk to the guy at the machine shop you use to do that and also find out the deck height so you can pick pistons with the compression ratio you want. There are too many different deck heights out there to make a guess. I like somewhere around 9.5 for compression so you can still run regular gas.
And before deciding on FI/carb, both have merits. It really depends on where you find your satisfaction. I like to tinker with carbs and tuning as well as wacking FI Broncos. ;)

My suggestions:

We have started on my daughter's 68 build and we are going with:
302 w/EFI probably the ez setup
C4 unless we can find a 4r70w reasonable
Hydraboost with 4 wheel discs
6-point cage
1.5" lift w 1-2 body lift
33x12.5x15
We have 14months to have it ready for her 16th birthday

Need your advice on the fuel source Carb or EFI

I realize I need to get some feedback on the EFI vs the carb discussion. I'm guessing that most of you guys will reccomend the EFI. But which one. I'm looking for simplicity and affordability. So let's pic a fuel source so we can decide on which cam and the rest of the engine rebuild.

5.0L EFI and a AOD, AOD-E or 4R70W.

I wouldn't want a C4 for something that drives around town. Antiquated technology is a nice way to say it.

I'm more for carb, but I'm probably the minority compared to most on the site. I just like seeing the OEM aircleaner all painted pretty and nice with that orange and black 302 sticker staring at me when I pop the hood. My 74 build will nest in a heated garage when I'm done. If I decide to take her out in the cold weather start up shouldn't be too difficult. Thus my decision to keep it carb.

As for your rig, is it a repaint? I ask because I've never seen the special decor stripe in anything but white. Looking forward to the build EFI or carb;D!!

Ain't nothing wrong with a well-built C4. I drive mine around town every day and don't have any issues with it.

I agree with viper, I have ac4 in my daily driver and am very happy with it......I'm not the smartest person in the Bronco community but the idea of raising the gear ratio to match the RPM of an AOD up to the equivalent of the RPM range of a c4 at highway speeds is fuzzy math to me?

I would go EFI if I was you especially since you doing a complete tear down. You'll be happy with how smooth it runs. Nothing wrong with a well tuned carb but after going EFI I could never go back. And the C4 ain't bad but I will evventually go to a 4R70W.
