The C4 stays. I need to save that money and put it into other areas, possibly a EFI. Down the road maybe I'll change. But my wife drives a 2010 Denali, so this is not a daily driver just a fun car. I'm surprised that I'm not getting more EFI for sure. I didn't originally plan on EFI so the budget would do up for that and I'd have to save it elsewhere.

The paint job was a custom from the PO. Not stock.

If your budgeting this, a quadrajet on a stock cast Iron 4 barrel manifold with adapter plate is hard to beat and fits under the stock hood with no body lift. Fuel injection may be better but is really expensive especially if your paying someone to install. If you have installation hickups the costs go up astronomical.
Use flat top pistons, rv cam with the 5.0 firing order and new heads, by the time you buy valves, guides and hardened seats and the labor to get it done you might as well bought new heads. Use a good timing chain set not a stock replacementset.
For a part time street rig the c-4 is great.
Have fun with your build.

start with a carb set up get the truck on the road drive it and enjoy. Then once you have everything dialed in go efi. I did rather know that the set up is right and motor running right before putting on somthing that may complicate things so you know its the efi and not somthing to do with the motor.

C4 is a good trani and if its just a fun truck then you should be fine. Gas will disapear if you do any freeway driving, but then again if it just a fun truck that will not matter much.

I vote EFI also.

Thomas is top notch and will do the job right! I look forward to seeing this in TN this year.

Ran that exact setup on my old 302 for many years......

Great throttle response and decent fuel economy.
Add something like an Edelbrock Performer cam and lifter kit (I have Summit Racing's version in my 351W) a set of headers/duals and I think you'd be quite happy......without a big cash outlay;)

Hey Hans,

I am just about to put my motor back in a frame off resto. 351W, Edelbrock Performer, 1" BL. Any probs with hood clearance, you reckon?? I have a 3" air cleaner.

I ran mine with an Edelbrock Performer intake/carb, 3" K&N drop base filter and it cleared (not by much, though).

I even ran a Q-jet on that same intake (with the added height of the adapter) but had to use a hex nut on the stud....the wing nut would rub the hood bracing.

I have since added a 1" body lift (more for header and hydroboost clearance issues) and just that 1", made a significant difference....without it looking goofy.

I'm getting ready to (finally%)) install my GM based, TBI system so, we'll see what kind of issues I'll run into there(?).......anybody have any input?:?

I know it's not a popular of a choice on CB because it's not the best off road carb, but I love my Edelebrock 525. Ran fantastic right out of the box and I bought the little tune kit and got it really running good. Way better at every RPM than I ever got my old Holley to run. I've got a street driven, around town rig too. 302, Performer intake, RV type grind cam, lots of head work, 9.5-1 compression, Unilite ignition, reworked C-4 and 4.10's. Will spin the 32x11.50's on the roll and bark them going into 2nd no problem. It prefers mid to super though. Probably just a timing issue but I like the power so I put the higher grade in and keep my foot to the floor.
The C-4 and 4.10's keep the RPM's a little high on the freeway but it's really fun around town. I don't need to drive 75 in an open top EB anyway.

Give me some opinion on brakes: Power Brakes or Hydroboost? I need some feedback from you guys that have used both or have strong opinions about what you have.

I will start to post some more pictures Monday and decide where we go on the motor and fuel source. I want Thomas to crack open the engine because we both feel that it already has a aftermarket cam and possible more inside the block, it just ran way to strong to be stock. Then we can move onto some more aspects of the build. I know you guys love pictures, so I'll post some and edit the Subject line to let you know that the pics are up. The frame is painted and so are the axels.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have a 76' with 35" tires, I did the Astro Van hydro boost, it works 10x better than the stock vacuum booster. Probably one of the best upgrades for making it comfortable to drive.

I would go the less money route on the brakes.... both vacuum booster and hydroboost are a huge improvement over non power-brakes. I have both and prefer the hydroboost, which may end up being the less money of the two since most of the parts are junkyard accessible.

Remember your PS pump though... you may want to think ahead about what pump you are going to run and make sure it's enough to push the PS and brakes. I am a huge fan of the explorer serpentine and that gives you an upgraded alternator and PS pump.

No question hydro-boost especially if your handing the keys to someone else to drive.

Ok that was easy, hydroboost it is. As much as I wanted to try a carb, I think since it's my wife's build I better go EFI for simplicity and reliability sake. Before we ge into the discussion drum vs disk, I need your input about which EFI.

thanks. Pictures are coming Monday.

Engine is worn out

Ok guys we opened up the engine and it's not looking good. Everything is pretty worn out as you can see. Here's the question I need help with now, What do I do:
1- Rebuild the existing?
2- Go with Ford Racing?-

http://fordracingparts123.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=529

3- Jasper?

Or other suggestions. Remember is a mall crawler for momma, but I want it reliable.

Please weigh in.

Find a used newer roller engine. Will come with 90% of the EFI stuff you will need. If you find a low mileage engine you can probably just clean it up and drop it in. Look at Mustangs, Explorers, T-birds, and their equivalent Lincoln/Mercury counterparts. Some of the bigger cars had 5.0's as well. Someone else will have to weigh in on the Speed Density vs. Mass Air dilema. I had an '88 Tbird with Speed Density and it ran great with plenty of power.
