Hey Guys,
Here's a link to anothere Moab Times-Independent article.
http://www.moabtimes.com/view/full_story/21046223/article-Local-companies-named-on-%E2%80%98boycott%E2%80%99-list-for-supporting-national-monument-proposal-near-Canyonlands?instance=lead_story_leftcolumn
The thing that jumped out at me is that after the proposal was made regarding the monument, and things were hopeful for its proponents, at least one of those same supporters believes that a boycot of companies supporting the monument by the off-road community (and maybe oil, gas and mineral extraction) is unfair. The boycot was referred to as "bullying". It quotes Mike Coronella as saying: "The call for a boycott comes instead of “constructive debate or conversation."
I guess I don't understand what the bid deal is. If I believe strongly enough in any cause, I am willing to accept the consequences of that support. I don't believe the extremists on either side wish to play nice or negotiate. I will definitely think twice about the businesses I support when I return to Moab, although I do enjoy some of them (e.g. Baja Grill).
It's obvious that monetary matters carry a lot of weight.
I'm not an extremist. I know there are wheelers who give the rest of us a bad name, just as I know there are a lot of extremists on the other side. I also know a lot of great folks who enjoy biking and hiking. I want to be able to enjoy what Utah has to offer wheelers as much as they want to enjoy it for their hobby. It's too bad it has to come to this.
