CLUNK sound putting in reverse

I've had this 77 Bronco for about 5 weeks now. It has a 302 with a C4. When I put it in reverse there is a loud clunk and the Bronco lurches back pretty hard. Im sure I'm not the only one this has happened to. The trans shows plenty fluid on the stick. Is this a transmission or u joint problem? ?:?

U-Joint, or a loose yoke, or a loose CV joint (the bolts tend to work themselves loose), or bad transfer case bushings. My advice is go through all of the above because If you have all of them (which my Bronco did) it will really clunk and slam all the time.

Ive replaced all my u joints and it still clunks in reverse. But not when its cold. I asked my local mechanic and he told me it could be the ring and pinion are worn. Is this wrong?

I was kinda hoping it would get worse so I can replace with 4.11 :)
:p :p :p You could have a locker or mite be a worn ring and pinion. You can look at it put the trans in N and see how much you can turn the drive shaft if you don't have a locker you need to fix it. ::) ::) ::) Bill 8) ::) :p

You might also check the mounting holes for the rear springs. I have seen where they have been routed out to where they allow the rear axle to move up and down when a load is placed on it.
