Hi-
I just installed a nv3550 in my ‘68. I MAY have failed to connect the wire retainer from the fork to the bell housing. If this is not attached, how much of a problem is this? I don’t see anyway to address this without pulling the bell housing/trans, etc. I have tried to inspect with an endoscope, but I can’t even get that around to verify the wire’s position.
BTW, the shifting currently seems fine. The throw out bearing rests away from the pressure plate fingers when the clutch is not depressed. What caused me to wonder about the clip being in place is that when the clutch pedal is pushed down, the fork seems to slide (I cannot be sure this is happening due to the limited field of vision through the scope.

The real question is: Given the throw out is not resting on the pressure plate and shifting seems fine, is there a likely hood of problems occurring if that clip is not in place?

Wish I could help, but all I know about is ‘3 on a tree’ trans, and don’t know much about that. I know HOW to tear up a clutch. I’m sure someone who knows will be here momentarily.

Can you move the clutch lever up and down easily? Does it feel sloppy in the bell housing? Many, many years ago I broke the hinged part of a bell housing on a 73 Mercury Comet with a 200 six, and it wouldn't shift at all, no clutch operation at all. That bell housing had a different design, but I would think you would have shifting issues if it were not clipped.
