Clutch Pedal Bushing Replacement

Hey guys, easy repair here (probably), just need some guidance.

Clutch hit the. floor on the drive home today, turns out the linkage from clutch pedal to rod was not in place at all.

It seem a bushing should be there, but I found no evidence of a bushing. What I found was a twisted small piece of metal. Looks like someone previously to me had pushed the rod through and then just twisted a metal piece through the pin hole of the rod to hold it in place.

In reviewing spec sheets and my shop manual I'm not seeing anyone else rod with this pinhole. Just a bushing holding the rod in place.

Is it possible I've got some franken-clutchrod someone put in? Or does everyone have this pin hole on the clutch rod but it just has no role in holding the assembly together?

Note: to get home I grabbed a fish hook out of my tackle box and shoved it through the whole to keep the assembly together. Doesn't seem safe for longer trips.

edit:
I'm considering this for a local fix. the bushing part is ford #7526

yep, thats it thanks. all the bushing sets I found didn't have those clips on them, had me wondering if I had something abnormal.

Im gonna try to local dorm mixed kit. Hopefully they have on in there that works. Always better to go with one of our vendors, but I need to get to work tomorrow.

So I need TWO of those bushings and TWO of those clips? How is the assembly done?

Sorry for being dumb, I'm just not seeing where two of the bushings would intersect and why Id need the second clip.

I just finished restoring all of the pedals, and installed new bushings when I put everything together. Take a look at the attached picture and zoom in on the clutch rod. One bushing at each end, rubber grommet for the floor pan in the middle, and either clips like these or cotter pins to secure both ends in place.

Hope this helps.

Chris

That does help, thanks Chris.

It appears my truck has been running without a bushing at all for some time, probably just a cotter pin in there that detoriated. The pedal seems mostly fine, but the push rod pin hole has been worked over pretty well.

If I want to replace the entire rod (the push rod, the one that goes through the floor, NOT the one that connects back to the tranny) the link below is the one I need right?

Looks different, but I assume that's where the heavy duty comes in.

I think so. It looks like that one is a little more secure and definitely more heavy duty.
