Clutch pedal removal problem

I need to pull the clutch pedal to drill it for the hydraulic cylinder rod for the just installed ZF. My understanding of the shaft the clutch and brake pedals ride on is there is a cotter pin on each end, so I pulled the one on the clutch end and after 3 hours (moving up to a 2lb hammer) have moved it in about 1/4".
Am I missing something else that needs to come out?
Or is there another trick?

Thanks

Matt

i just went out to my shop and pulled the assembly to look at it..

all i see it 2 pins and the rod..

only thing i can think of is to pull it as a unit.. but that may be another issue. I have it on the bench as im doing a frame off rebuild

I beat myself silly trying to get it out too. I think it gets rusty or boogered over time. I also think it only comes out one way even though there are pins on both ends.

Send it the other way.
See that flat spot on the shaft? it is catching on that. The hole isn't round, it is "D" shaped.
I believe it has to come out toward the drivers side, remove the air box for clearance.

I didn't see those pictures before.
That one end that is round, leave that cotter key in place.
The other side the end of the shaft is "D" shaped. Take that cotter key out and push from that side.

I had that issue. Then just pulled the whole assembly. It does only come out one way. Mine still took some convincing on the bench. Don't think I could have gotten it out under the dash.
