Coleman Stackable Coolers

Just thought I would spread the word, I just ordered a pair of these so I can build my cooler rack to suit, thought they were slick and would be great for wheeling.

They are stackable coolers, not super huge but decent and would allow for you to separate your stuff or just take so much on the trek.

Anyways, thought I would share, I'll get a pic if I ever get my rear rack done.
There are 3 sizes, and will all stack up together.

Exellent idea. It's too bad they don't have tie-down loops to keep them secure in the back of our Broncos.

I figured on drilling out the handles possibly, will have to wait to get them to see if that will ruin them. I will find a way.

I've used coolers for dry storage on more than one occasion and even made a custom carry rack for one on my Argo (6-wheel amphibious vehicle). They work great!

If the hinges are attached with screws you may be able to attach a smal D-ring via the screw but I'd be wary of it pulling the screw out of the plastic... On the front of the lid where the indentation for the handle is, that could be drilled for an anchor point.

True, they would be even nicer with an anchor point on all 4 sides but there's always the ratchet strap or cargo net option...

Nice find!

No kidding... that is a neat idea. What is their rating like? I settle for no less than my current Igloo MaxCold. It will keep ice an amazingly long time even in the heat.

Stackable coolers, authentic Jerry cans, swing-out carrier bumper questions.
You have some wheels turning in that brain, Josh.

Haha, you know it man, I need to get the rack and bumper done. I picked up an original Con-Ferr rack too, basically brand new for $150.

Maybe make some sort of set-up like a battery hold down to go across the top of the cooler? Something with a couple wingnuts that will hold the coolers inplace even in off camber situations.
no drilling into the cooler needed.

A Con-Ferr roof rack? wow, have you been inspired by the expedition thread or what?
I guess you have to maximize space with all the family to accomodate.

Good idea Dan. They sell long threaded rod at the hardware store.

Good find, Tito. Definitely would be nice to not have to reach into a Saturday night cooler soup of grill meat, melted ice, and brews all mashed together. %)
Keep us posted if you grab one and drill the molded handles. Not ideal for my tie down setup either, but I like the look of these (if they make in pink of course ;) )

All this stuff was rolling before that thread but yes thats the idea, I am just running out of time to get another wheeling trip in before the baby girl is born (not baby Bronco). We were at the Big Bear Bronco Bash a few weeks ago and yeah, the Bronco is full of bodies and really very little room for gear, etc, much less even a spare tire. I had my tools, fluids, a few parts which all seemed to come in handy for myself or others on the trail but I want to be able to hold some bigger parts as well as gear to camp with.

Really glad to see several others see the usefulness in these, should fit on my rack just perfect with those Blitz cans below and all my camping gear, etc up on top ;D

Cant wait to get it all together, I'll be sure to post up pics when its done.

Well I appreciate you posting up your findings too. I ordered up those sleeved spindle hinges in your carrier thread. I had that same spindle and bearings that I bought at the local Tractor Supply Co., but saved some money ordering the sets from the link you provided and get the benefit of the sleeve vs welding the spindle itself to the bumper. Luckily your thread came along before I got to the meat part of my project. Thanks!
