Correct C4 Auto Dipstick Length or is it overheating?

I am still chasing a leak in my C4 Auto (1972 Bronco); finally confirmed it is fluid from the vent but the current transmission dipstick reflects the correct fill mark. Trying to confirm correct length of C4 auto dipstick. Mine measures 27 inches from the inside base of the cap to end....I have searched and found another reference to one being 26 5/16th....appreciate any other comments to narrow this down. The current dipstick does have a "ford" mark....however, transmission was added years ago and I don't have any history on where it came from.

Thanks...BTW, my wife is amused by this problem....not helping:mad:, but it does provide some humor trying to get a correct measurement on a dipstick.

I have also considered the transmission might be overheating...but it has been working fine..and what I believe is a reputable transmission shop has checked it out 3-4 times helping with this leak and they do not believe anything is wrong with it. Maybe it is just the fluid, but appreciate any comments or additional ideas.

Thanks.

There were 2 different length dipsticks and tubes for Bronco C4s. '73-'74 were shorter at about at 22" from the top of the cap to the full mark. It has D3BP-7A020-AA stamped on the dipstick.

The '75-'77 dipstick and tube are about 2" longer and is stamped D5TP-7A020-EA.

Really any paired dipstick and tube should give you the correct level at the full mark. The problem is if you have unpaired parts. Both Bronco tubes (except early Stroppes) come up behind the pass side of the intake manifold. The sticks are stamped as mentioned above.

Thanks! I really appreciate the additional info. I have checked the dipstick and confirmed it is D5TP-7A020-A2A; close but assume a different model? Any recommendations? Replace both dipstick and tube?

The dipstick is definitely wrong. Do you have any pictures of where and how far the tube comes up in relation to the top of the firewall?

Attached three different views; dipstick is about 3 inches below top of firewall.

Thanks for all the help!

The tube height may be close for the '75-'77 tube but the way it curves at the top isn't like a Bronco tube. It may be that someone has bent it to clear the hood with that long dipstick handle.

Viperwolf1...Thanks for the help. I plan to order from Summit a new trans oil pan (PMA-PA26404) with an add'l 2 qt capacity and will now purchase a new dipstick as well. I am hoping this takes care of both my recurring pan leakage and solves the dipstick problem. Appreciate any add'l comments. Thank you!
