Cruise Control on an Ididit column?

I am looking to re-use the Explorer cruise control on my build. Anyone ever added cruise controls to an Ididit column? If not, where are people mounting the controls in the cab?

I have cruise on my Direct-Fit column, but it's a typical add-on that either slips over, or replaces the turn signal stalk. Works well, but I didn't install it so don't remember all the details.
Because it's not stock to the Ididit column, the wires run down the outside and get clamped underneath to stay fairly well out of sight. Not as clean as if they were run through the inside of course, but still pretty good.

What are you going to use as an interface? Aren't the controls in the steering wheel normally? You going to try to wire them to an alternate control mechanism like on the stalk?
As much as I thought I preferred the Ford design, putting them on the steering wheel, after many years of constant use of cruise-controls of different brands, I actually ended up preferring the good old GM style on the turn-signal stalk after all.

I was thinking to install the ididit column and replace the turn signal with the ididit GM style cruise control stalk then somehow wire into the explorer cruise control unit under the hood. In the end I may just have to use the end to end ididit kit cause I am looking for what looks like a factory setup vs the dangling wire rats nest my projects usually look like... Was also curious if anyone had mounted the controls in the dash or console.

I bet you could figure out a way to integrate it. Maybe Garry (EFIGuy here) knows what it would take?
If it's all about the ECM, it may need special Ford switches to cooperate, but you never know.
If it's done in a different module, such as a BCM (body control module) like some older cars were, then I'm not sure what you would need.
But I bet Garry could enlighten us a bit.

I'm guessing you're using the Explorer's 4R70W transmission too?

Good luck.

I wonder what the chances are these have the same resistance as the 1996 explorer steering wheel mounted switches? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcraft...10-2013-Ford-Fusion-Driver-Side/352550903225?

Then I could use my explorer setup and have decent looking switches mounted in the console or on my dash. Anybody tried something like that?

I know I know, what the hell does he want cruise control in a Bronco for!?

1.) Lots of highway around north texas
2.) because it is yet one more project that will cause great levels of pain and spending just to see if I can do it...for the love of Broncos...

Heck, I practically LIVE on cruise-control!
I have run into one issue though, regarding the gearing.
With 4.56's and just 31" tires, the CC is a bit "responsive" you might say!

But I love it. And the A/C ain't too shabby either!
Those are good looking switches. Would you put them in some kind of panel, maybe in a console? Or put them on the dash?
I'm just wondering, because I think the dash is a little too far forward for my liking. A switch you only need occasionally wouldn't be too bad, but one that you're using often to raise/lower the speed would be more hassle.

Some kind of cool panel on the column, or even on an overhead like the wiper motor cover maybe?

Now we're talking - those would look great and yes I am thinking of mounting them on the edge of the console. just to to figure out if they have the right resistance to control my box from the exploder. I guess I could add resistors to make it work. Sounds like a fire waiting to happen if I don't watch it.

Once you figure it out, let us know. ;)

I was thinking of trying to get the rectangular chrome ones to work. My parents had those in a 1985 Crown Victoria when I was a kid. They were steering wheel controls, but they appear that they would work on any flat surface. I wonder what the size of the one's you linked are? They look like they would blend in nicely with some Aux switches for lights, winch, etc.

Sounds like a fire waiting to happen if I don't watch it.

My understanding of the recall and potential for fire was brake fluid leaking out of the pressure switch and into the harness. It would eventually short out and catch fire. I believe the recall kits just add fuses in the jumper harness and a revised pressure switch.

So, as long as you use the updated parts, in theory, it should be safe.
