I'm thinking about building some custom sliders. I was hoping you guys could post up some pictures/designs. I was also wondering how to mount them. Should I just weld them to the frame?

I cut the outer rockers out .5" below the door threshold and cut the inner rockers leaving 1.5", cut a 2x5x3/16 to fit in there. Capped the ends at a 45 degree and then welded 2 2x2" back to the frame. Also welded the seams of the rockers both outer and inner. If i had it to do over I might not weld the seams long ways and might just put some seam sealer on it to keep the water out. the 2x2 hold them really solid so no need to weld the 2x5 to the sheet metal. tough to do anyway with my welder.
I have some pics I can email or maybe i'll figure out how to post up here. Do some searching. there are many ideas. 2x5 leaves you about .75" of overhang on the outside. 2x6 leaves more if you want that look. 4x4 is really beefy. I managed to find pics of all variations here on CB prior to building mine.

These are Tom's rock skis with modified mounting using countersunk holes and stainless socket head bolts with fender washers behind rocker panels.

I made these for mine- cut the rockers leaving 1 1/2 inches and used a peice of angle and bent up all the tube- they are bolted to the body, welded to the frame and also attach the roll cage to the frame.

DSCN0626.jpg My rockers are 3/16" thick 4" square tube with ends welded on. They have been tested several times. I cut off the outside of the old rockers but left the back of the rockers there. Drilled many holes in the back flat plate for spot welds and also welded along every contact (except front fenders so they can be removed) where the new rockers met. It looks somewhat factory.

Looking good guys. Thanks for the posts. I'm leaning towards 4x4 tube welded to frame with a 2x2 step bar thing too.

Thats me, thanks, I would be willing to make them if people wanted- I would rather make a few sets to make it cost effective, they really work well in the rocks protecting the body

I used 2x6 left 1" stick out cut the rocker about 1" below door opening only welded to the body, last outing with almost all the weight on the drivers rear slider I pushed it in, I just need to beat it out and add some support to the frame.

I cut my rockers about 1/8" below the door and rolled it back up to make a nice lip. I made some 2x8x.250 wall sliders by welding 2, 2x4x.250 pieces together. That gives me a .500 bulkhead down the length of the slider.
I made a mount that sandwiches the door sill between a piece of 1/4" plate below the sill and an 1/8" diamond plate on top to strengthen the door sill. The front and rear of the sliders mount to the A and B pillar's of the roll cage from below. This sandwiches the body between the sliders and the cage. I also plumbed the sliders with quick release air chucks for air tanks. They stick out just enough to be even with the warflares, gives me a little step, matches the flares and keeps the high lift off of the sheet metal if I need to jack it up along the side for some reason. It also makes a nice pivot point too........

Sorry for all of the links. I can't post pic's here.

I would be interested in a set. Already have my rockers cut for them.

Best I've seen, I think it's time to put that idea into production!
