The steering box strut helps protect the box from tearing the frame. I’ve never had any issues with the frame or box. But it’s a very common failure point.

Looks like your frame is plated , guys still well rip box off the frame ? Details on how that mounts to the steering shaft . I tend to break stuff .

I plated the frame when I moved my steering box forward. The plate was more preventative for future frame damage.

A trick sector shaft nut that accepts a 5/8” heim. I bought this years ago from Evolution Off Road in Fullerton, Ca.

I have the same pitman arm nut. The theory is to eliminate side load on the box. Even if you plate the frame the rotational force place between the box and sector saft is still there placing all that force on the bearings inside the box. Any force transferred up you draglink goes through the box still. Plating the frame does nothing to help the box itself. By making the sector shaft in theory rigid to the frame, the load is taken off the box completely.
