Trying to set pre load on upper ball joint adjuster sleeve to required 40lbs. Sleeve screws out the bottom of knuckle til spanner socket bottoms out on ball joint stud. Anybody ever run into this issue before?

Thanks

It is becoming pretty common with the MOOG joints, but that is a long way down. Are you sure the lower ball joint is seated properly and torqued? The general consensus is 1-2 threads of the sleeve sticking out of the bottom of the upper arm of the C is normal, more than that and something else is going on.

I've got the bottom torqued to 90lbs, no problem. I remember this same issue 2-3 years ago, I just left a couple threads out the bottom and tighten castle nut to 100lb. Just don't know why top won't seat correctly. Its a late 70's F150 or Bronco knuckle. The drivers side went fine couple years ago when upgrading to disk brakes. I'm replacing the passenger knuckle due to trail carnage at LEBC roundup, so that rules out knuckle issue.

What sort of trail carnage? Maybe the inner C is bent open a little so the top and bottom are farther apart. That would required the sleeve to go farther down to reach the upper ball joint.

It did the same thing when I went to disk setup couple years ago. I'm replacing a ripped knuckle and it still won't adjust correctly. I'm assuming the inner c is bent. I guess it's damage from a previous owner. Not a big deal, it's my trail rig. I'll probably be changing to HP full width in the future.
Thanks for the replies!
