I have a 4r70w trans adapted to the d20 with a zf adapter.

it worked for a few weeks and then the tcase was filled with transmission oil. the guy rebuilding the 20 for me said I need a seal or something to make it work and I cant find the right one.

If any of you guys have used this adapter what did you use to stop the oil from getting from the trans to the tease?

Im trying to get the part today

Thanks, Evan

I found this pic. Looks like it didn't have a seal to begin with but the bearing isnt keeping the fluid out by itself. You guys have a part number of a double sided seal that would fit there?

Then does this look like it will seal better than what the kit came with?

Thanks, Evan

That adapter should use the standard trans/tcase seal that is found on all manual and auto adapters for the D20. CR #517383, SKF #18676, or Timken #473179

We got the d20 adapter seal from wild horses and it doesn't fit.

This is the size it's suppose to be, 2.730 od 2.125 id depth .550 needs to be a double lip seal.

Does this sound right? AA said they don't have it for this kit and the vendors don't have it either

The seal I mentioned above is 2.760" OD x 1.875" ID x .475" wide. If your spud shaft measures 2.125" I don't see why you couldn't have it cut down to 1.875".

After looking at the AA website, I see that they use the sealed bearing only with the ZF adapter. I don't understand why because the spud and bearing retainer should be (or could be) the same as those used with the AOD adapter. The AOD adapter does use the separate stock type seal.

Hmm well I'm just going to use some lock tight 680, suppose to be good for sealing bearing I guess. I heard from someone else on here it worked for him

well I put it all together today and left the d20 empty and the drain plug out and put a few quarts in the trans and it all is just draining through.

so I dont know what to do, I cant find a seal, and the sealed bearing does nothing.

what is different from the zf adapter than the 4r70w that makes it not leak like this?

I go back to college on monday and would really like to take my car

Thanks, Evan
