First off: 1970 Bronco, 302, 3 speed with Hurst on the floor, D20 with Hurst shifter.

I have been unable to determine the true shift pattern for my transfer case since I purchased the truck in May '09. The stock shift knob shows the pattern to be: from the dash - 4L, N, 2H, 4H. I got the case stuck in what should be 4H last year and ViperWolf1 helped me with the method to unstick it. Thanks ViperWolf1...
I was in 4WD for the snow in Colorado Springs and the truck seemed sluggish, so I think my shift pattern is not what the stock shift knob says it is. A quick check in the garage with the truck running, from the dash - two distinct shift points with movement, neutral, two more shift points with movement. Is there something wrong with the transfer case/ Or is the pattern reversed because of the Hurst shifter? This is my DD and I need to know so I don't blow it up.

Thanks in advance..

all the way to the rear is 4h. next forward will be 2h. next is n. you will get 2 clicks foward as the case goes into rear then front low. if your case is good and tight then you can use the 2L but a sloopy case its not recomended. just go all the way through to 4L.

Yep, that pattern is correct for your '70. The Hurst lever uses the same pivot point and basic layout, so the pattern stays stock.
You could have a balance bar issue (there at the two shift rods at the case) or something internal, but it could also just be an incorrectly installed or adjusted shift lever.
Or, do you have a body-lift by any chance? It's possible that with a body lift you're not getting a full throw due to the body opening being too small.
Check that out first.

Sounds like you found out the same way I did that the TC actually has 5 positions. My shift knob had the same marks but if you came out of 4L with 1 click then you were in 2L and not neutral. I towed mine for 40 miles before I figured that out.D'op! No damage luckily:-[
