Years ago my speedo stopped working and I pulled the cable and saw that the teeth on the cable gear were chewed up. Years later I got around to replacing the chewed up gear. After replacing the speedo still did not work and come to find out that it was the speedometer itself that was locked up. The locked up speedometer caused the new cable gear to get slightly chewed up. Repaired speedo, got new cable gear, and still no speedo. I stuck my finger in the output assembly of the t-case and the drive gear moves now (it did not before). What do you guys think my options are here?

Is the flange nut the only place that can make the output shaft loose, or can this happen from within the housing?

The speedo drive gear and bearings are stacked on the output shaft and the preload on them is adjusted with shims. Too many shims and the drive gear would be tight and yoke endplay would be loose. Too few shims and the drive gear could be loose and endplay could be tight. Another possibility I have seen is the plastic portion of the drive gear is spinning loose on it's hub. You'll have to take it apart to fix it.

I don't anyone that specifically sells them. You would probably need to find a used one from somewhere that sells used tcase parts, like JBG.
