Hi all,
I did a search for this issue however, it seems like everybody had a vent, but it was in different locations. In my case, when I pulled my Dana 44, there was no vent. I have a stud that was holding the block for the brake lines and that’s it. Are there any housings where this is normal? Before everything was cleaned. It seems to have been that way for a while. Thanks.

Someone unscrewed the vent nipple and screwed in the stud you show in the photos. Unscrew the stud and screw in the correct vent.

Hopefully that stud they jammed in there is the same thread pitch as the vent.... Might be why its a stud, and not a vent. If not, you should be able to drill, tap, and Helicoil it. Luckily, the guts appear to already be out of it so you can get any shavings out.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what happened. I had to smooth out oil seats and bearing seats as somebody went through this thing and just chiseled the heck out of it, instead of using pullers and drivers. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I had to work this week, but I’ll mess with it tomorrow.
