Dealer add-ons?

I curious if it was common for ford dealers to offer add-on carpet kits and chrome roof racks in 1972. My 72 had carpet installed with what appears to be original metal trim pieces. The adhesive used appears to have been sprayed-in. The carpet material was quite degraded, not worn out just sort of deteriorating (as if it was 50 years old). The roof rack is era correct. It was sold at what I heard was a higher volume dealer, Lakewood Ford in the Denver area (Fordland). Thanks!

Dealer may have done it. Prior owner may have done it in there driveway. Or an accessory shop could have put them on. Nothing says you can't go to the dealer and order a carpet kit and install it yourself. Or the truck on the showroom was perfect except the buy really wanted carpet. Send it in back and have carpet put in as we write up the paperwork.

Anything is possible. Unless there is a paper trail there is no way to know who actually put the parts on. You can get a Marti report and know what it left the factory with. That is the only retro paper trail that exists.

What month was your ‘72 built? Is there a “P” or “Q” in the VIn? Possibly could be one of the early Rangers. A Marti report wouldn‘t state Ranger, but the seat color/code would indicate it left the factory as such.
