I read about 1977 f150 ebrake cables being longer and I read about using a passenger side bronco for the drivers side for lifted broncos.
Well, ours is a 2.5” suspension and a 1” body lift and needed new cables.
I ordered all of those and none really worked well. Not quite long enough, different cable ends, different lengths....
So I spent a couple of hours researching through rock auto’s descriptions that had sheath and cable length looking for a pair that would have the SAME amount of cable longer than the sheath that matched ours. By my measurements, we need about 13” of cable to get into the drum and to reach the lever.
Cutting to the chase, I found that 1972 (70-72 are apparently the same) ford f100 (with the 302 but I don’t know that it makes any difference) has left and right cables that are a few inches longer, the same excess cable length and the correct ball end and same mounting system on both ends as the broncos.
The ONLY part that doesn’t work 100% well is, with new drums and pads, i still ran the adjuster about 75% up to get them adjusted properly. But it isn’t really a problem. They work great, no issues, and if I run out of adjustment later, I can easily space the lever out with some washers between the nut and the union piece.
I got the raybestos cables because I could see the sizes. They were $30 each. They have a doorman brand for about $18 each which should work identically.
Just wanted to share. Pics aren’t the best but they should show how well it all fits.
You could easily route them differently for clearance but ours is, unfortunately, just a city truck.
