Do I need a high pressure fuel pump?

As you all know...I'm learning.

My engine is an old 302 bored 30 over, new rings, edelbrock performer intake, matched 600 cfm carb (came together from Jegs), TBP headers, roller cam, HEI dizzy.

My buddy who built it up suggested a high pressure fuel pump.

Is that needed? What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks?

Thanks

Usually the edelbrock carbs dont like high pressure pumps. Downside well you may develop a flooding issue. Then you may need a regulator to correct it. If its real high pressure and your regulating it down it may lead to early fuel pump death.

There are no benefits unless your running 8000 RPM and running out of fuel.

4-6psi is all you should need.

Just got the motor running last week with headers only. Exhaust going on Monday, so he'll tune carb and set timing at that point, then I guess we'll see what happens...

Seems I meant high volume not high pressure:

Fuel Type(s):Gasoline
GPH (Free Flow) Rating:110 gph
Inlet Size(s):3/8 in
Mounting Type:Stock
Outlet Size(s):3/8 in
Pressure Rating:6 PSI

Any standard fuel pump will do. you dont need high pressure or high volume. again it boils down to you are not racing and dont have a monster motor so a stock type pump will give you more than you'll ever need.
