Changed fuel tank, all lines and filters, mechanical fuel pump. About to rebuild carb.

when I fill tank, do I need to prime the new mechanical fuel pump and lines somehow? Or will the pump pull fuel through? Never done a complete fuel system replacement. My original tank was full of rust, could see it in the filters, I think that is what killed my fuel pump and maybe caused the carb issues.

I really appreciate the answers and help from all you guys. Hope yall are staying warm!

No need to prime the whole system but it wouldn't hart to make sure there is fuel to the pump. It's the same as running one tank dry then switching tanks at the valve. It helps to prime the carb with a splash of gas when you first start it just to get the pump push it up to the carb.

Usually all you need to do is fill the fuel bowl. By the time the bowl runs dry it will have run long enough to prime itself.

If your battery is low and/or your cranking speed is low enough, it might have more trouble priming. They're supposed to be self-priming, but that's only when everything is working to spec.
That dribble of gas into the carburetor's bowl vents is a huge help. Anything that gets the engine running at idle (faster than the starter can crank on it's own) will help even more.

Just dealt with this after replacing all the fuel lines....had to pour a little gas into the vents to get it to fire up and stay running.

Fuel in the carb or starting fluid. If you try to prime the system by cranking it will kill the battery before you get fuel to the carb. If you can get the engine to turn over and run with starting fluid/fuel in the carb it will prime right quick.
