Had my driveshafts done at a very reputable shop but have some issues, before I go back I think one will work and wanted to quiz you guys.

I measured from yoke face to yoke face
Rear is 27.25 inches
Front is 29.5 inches

I took in 3 driveshafts, 1 stock rear and 2 stock fronts. All yokes are the same.
He took my measurements and they were making 1 specific for rear, 1 specific for front, and then 1 splitting the difference to be a spare for either end.

This is what I got back

30" extended and 25.5 collapsed
29" extended and 25" collapsed
27" extended and 23.75 collapsed

The way I see it I have 1 shaft that will work in the rear.
Not sure what happened here.
Is 4 to 5 inches of travel normal and what you would expect? If yes which of the 2 longer ones should I keep for the rear? I need to take 2 of them back.

I had took a few driveshafts to a shop close to where I live and that's all they do. I called and asked what info they needed so I got 28.5 front and rear that's easy got the shafts back and completely collapsed they are 29.5. WTF! I called them back and asked how they came up with that and they said that should work.

Go to Tom Wood's custom Driveshafts: http://4xshaft.com/

Read up on his site and find out everything you need to know and then go in and talk to the shop that did your work.

Good luck.

The longest one works for the rear. They are fixing the one for the front and the spare this morning.

Not to hijack, but how important is tube diameter?

All my factory tubes were 2.5" and the one I ordered from a vendor on here came in at 2". Looks kind of silly under there but it if works I guess I'll keep it.

Tube diameter is important with respect to torsional rigidity, however it has to fit where it has to fit. Wall thickness can make up for a lack of tube diameter, but can be more difficult to balance. There are plenty of options with both, although off-road shafts tend towards smaller diameter tubing with thicker walls.
