Drum brake Guru's. Help please.

I'm stumped !

I noticed I put my brake cylinders on the wrong side so switched them over so the brake hose once attached would be facing the rear of the vehicle. DUH !

Anyway, after doing this I can't get the drum over the brake shoes. The parts are all new and it fit before I changed over the cylinders. I have not even plumbed my brake lines so it's not a fluid problem.

The shoes are tight at the top and the adjuster is turned all the way in at the bottom. I have even unhooked the park / emergency brake and that does nothing.

Am I missing something here ?

Check out pic 4 and 5, the adjuster is on the shoe in the wrong place, put it on the vertical part of the shoe and try it. This should give you the amount needed for the drum to slide on.

X2 of surfer-b. The slack adjuster is in wrong. Good eye surfer!!! Im also wondering, looking at pic 6, if the shoes are on right. There are two different shoes. The webbing is the same, just the amount of lining differs. There should be two shoes with shorter length lining, and two with more lining on them. The pic looks like the same size linings. Could just be the pic though. Make sure you have the shoe with the shorter lining on the front side and the longer on the rear.

Quick glance at your pictures it looks like the adjuster is not installed correctly. Not sure how to describe this, but the part that fits over the shoe should be turned 90 degrees and mounted higher up on the show. Take a lokk at this picture as it it better than what I can describe

The leading shoe (one towards the front of vehicle) doesn't do as much braking work as the trailing shoe. Therefore the trailing shoes were made with longer linings than leading shoes so they would wear at the same rate. It seems that recently more brake shoe manufacturers are only producing one lining length. I suppose it's cheaper to make them all the same. It doesn't hurt braking performance. Just be sure to check the lining length of all four shoes when installing new ones. You don't want to put both short ones on one side or in the trailing positions.
