E4OD vs 4R70W is there much of a difference?

I've been looking for a strong auto trans to mate up to my 383 stroker build. I found a E4OD from a 93 F-250 4x4 for $250 with the tranfer case. Is the 4R70W a lot stronger of a trans that the E4OD and should I just keep looking?

Thanks!

Completely different everything...

4R70W from a 2WD will work but you will need it tore down and the output shaft replaced as part of converting it to 4WD. but you can get an Advanced Adaptors late AOD kit to convert it directly to a Dana 20 doing it that way.

The E4OD/4R100 evolved from the C6, and is possibly the heaviest (weight & strength) automatic ever put in a 1/2-ton truck. It's also among the largest.

The 4R70W evolved from the AOD, and is used in trucks & cars.

2008 Ford transmission naming convention is as follows:
* The first character, a number, is the number of forward gears.
* The second character, either the letter 'F' or 'R' represents front (transaxle) or rear (transmission) wheel drive.
* The next characters, a grouping of numbers, represents 1/10 the design torque capacity of the transmission/transaxle.
* The last character, if used, is one of the following:
* * 'E' for electronic shift
* * 'N' for non-synchronous shift
* * 'S' for synchronous shift
* * 'W' for wide ratio
