This thread stopped a few years ago, but I've been looking for how many 1966 U14 289 were made. My VIN is U14NL839556. I have the VIN decoded and matching numbers for engine/drivetrain. Not looking for value, just an idea of how many were made and what I may be sitting on. Currently, it's in drivable condition, but needs body, paint, and interior work. Basically, trying to determine if the history is more important than the mods I'm planning. My dad bought it from a friend 27 years ago and didn't get the provenance. Fenders are cut, engine/drivetrain are original, otherwise I can't say. Thanks!
Since there's no Marti Reports or other documentation for engine statistics there's not really any way to determine how many 289s were put in u13, u14 or u15s. Out of the 700 plus 66' u13 that I've documented that still exist, only 15 have turned up with an original 289 from the factory.

Just curious, what you mean by matching numbers for the drivetrain Rob?
Just that they date code as being a little before the manufacturing date? Making them more than likely all original? Or do yours in particular have the VIN stamped on some other components? I know For did that with some vehicles, but rarely, if ever on Broncos. Curious if yours does have matching numbers.
Which you probably knew the history of anyway, from knowing so much of its history.
