EB v8 radiator w/ 351W?

Is an EB V8 radiator adequate to cool a 351W? My hunch is marginally in low stress circumstances. I do have the original Windsor radiator, but it is too wide to clear the steering box. Also, fyi, I will be installing the serpentine front dress kit from Don. Any suggestions? Thanks. Howard

:D:D:D I use a 73 3 row bronco rad, in my 66 w/351W never had a heat problen. Used in the calif. desert into mexico and now in Ks. It was put in about 45 years ago. Good luck with your choice, ;D;D;D Bill;D%)

That 3-groove crank pulley takes up a lot of real estate. If your serpentine setup happens to be an Explorer accessory drive, things are good.

A Bronco V8 radiator can keep a 351W cool just fine. Some of the numbers game; An engine makes about the same amount of heat as the HP that is created. The cruising HP is the same on the 351 as a 302, so the same radiator will work on both. Quick acceleration doesn't need a radiator (dragster). Only need more cooling on a sustained load. And if the Explorer fan is used, that clutched fan with a little move air gap to the radiator core (with a proper full shroud) is probably all the extra cooling you need.

Thanks for responses. I'm hoping to jump on the serpentine front dress when I get a round tuit. I'm expecting one, but it seems to be on back-order. I will also have to re-vamp the six cylinder core support to accept the EB V8 radiator I have. Thanks again!

here you go Howard! ;)
now get 'r done... lol

p.s. a good fan shroud really improves the cooling efficiency.

Agree that it's enough. It's usually all about the individual engine and tune that create the too-much-heat problems with Broncos.
There are even members here running the tiny Explorer V6 radiator with 351 installs. I think it's a 2-row aluminum/plastic setup. Would love to run one of those myself someday, but so far am very happy with my triple-bypass radiator. So no hurry.

Two best things you can do are to use the Explorer setup, and tune the living daylights out of the engine!
Hopefully it's not a highly over-bored rebuild?

And what is a "stock Windsor" radiator anyway? What did it come out of? The engine donor vehicle?
As you likely knew, or have recently found out, most other vehicle's with large engines use short and wide radiators. Usually too wide for an EB.

Yup, Paul, you're correct. The donor was an F150 {1987, I think...) and the donor radiator was way too wide. Thanks for chipping in!

I used the 4.0 explorer radiator for a n automatic with ac. This is the best cooling explorer rad you can get and it works fenominal. I also used the 4.o fan shroud and the v8 explorer front dress all on my 351. Everything worked out like stock. Only had to weld on new lower radiator mounts to match the explorer post mount. I made custom uppers but i could have used the stock bronco ones if i had to

In spite of all that we're saying about stock this, and stock that Howard, there's nothing wrong with using an upgraded or oversized radiator either. It's extra insurance and a cushion for other things that can go wrong.
Which is why I mentioned tuning and over-boring. Both, along with aerodynamics, weight, load and other stuff can have a huge effect on how much heat is generated by an engine for a given amount of power, and if a given radiator has enough headroom to handle it.
Huuuuuge!

Wrong year Explorer. Something like '96 to '01 maybe? I don't know the year range for certain. (edit: '89 to '94 as it turns out)
Did it specify V8 or V6?

As far as I remember the ONLY Explorer radiator that I've seen here successfully fitted up to EB's is the previous generation Explorer's V6 radiator. The V8 version is way too wide and the '02 and later is an unknown. Well, at least until now...
The V6 on the other hand, fits into the Bronco opening very well.

Got a picture of this beast?

Like they say, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then, and I guess in my own not knowing where I'm going way, I found the way I am going. I asked a very knowledgeable gear head buddy of mine to swing by the shop. I had four radiators - stock V8 Bronco, stock 170 Bronco, stock 1987 F150 351W and 2003 4.0 Explorer. The F150 would not fit, the Explorer 4.0 would not fit and per my wizard buddy wasn't worth a $h!t even if it would fit.

Sooo,,,,,, easy enough choice - I'm going with the stock V8 radiator from my parts Bronco and modify the 170 core support to accept the V8 mounts. Next, find what shroud and what hoses I'll need, and I will have to add a tranny cooler for the C4, something I had not wanted to do, but at least I found an acorn.
Paul, the picture is the FB Marketplace radiator I bought.

You began with the false assumption that there is a 351 radiator. Instead there are F150 radiators and early Bronco V8 radiators. The entire front dress of the early Bronco V8 will work on a 351. The timing cover, water pump, accessory brackets, pulleys, and harmonic damper off the 289/302 go right on the 351. Then the radiator and hoses are Bronco parts not 351 parts. The parts you have are F150 not 351.
