Hey guys, I am new to the forum (by new, I mean a couple months) and I was wondering if you had any suggestions for this. I should probably do an introduction topic, but I figured I would knock this one out first. Is it possible to make a bone-stock 170 6cyl EFI? I am not putting custom work out of the question. I was thinking maybe a EEC-IV or EEC-V might work by drilling injector ports into the intake. Any thoughts?

Check out the websites classiclinlines.com and cliffordperformance.net. I'm not sure what they have as far as EFI goes but those are both websites dedicated to inline 6 performance. classic inlines has a forum too, fordsix I believe. Those guys do turbos and aluminum heads and what not so they would know better than anyone.

x2 on FordSix performance. There's as much info there in I6 fords as there is here on Broncos ;D

Yes, I think it is possible. I've had the same question for a while and have been reading a lot about it. My plan, though, is to get the 170 that I have running to buy myself time so I can build a stronger 200 (which should be a direct bolt in). At the moment I'm trying to decide whether it would be easier to build a megasquirt EFI from scratch or get an aluminum head from Classic Inlines and get a TBI setup to replace the weber 38/38. Either way is going to cost 4 times what I paid for the bronco origianally

In the end, though, you can end up with an unstoppable I-6. I just love a straight six.

You might want to contact EFI Guy about the possibility of modifying an OBDII V6 Explorer harness and computer for an L6. It could be a long shot but it's worth a try.

Thanks for all the help guys! I still can't believe how fast people respond on this forum! I have considered classic inlines and clifford performance before, they really know their 6 cylinders. That might be where I go next. That explorer option sounds really promising, I'll have to look into that one. How much would a Megasquirt system cost? I have heard about this system before, but never considered it would work very well. Any experience out there?

I just checked out Affordable Fuel Injection. You're right, Yeller, they literally have everything EFI for classic engines! Would the EFI kit for the 200 be suitable for the 170? They even offer the intake adapter for a little extra and MSD box for no extra charge. And it is such a good price too!

There is a guy that comes to the Super Celebration with a '73. It has a 200 I6 in it with EFI, and I believe he somehow used the fuel system off a Ford Tempo. I can't remember what all was involved, but I plan to talk to him this year in more detail so maybe I can do it on our '71.

Deano, you out there? I think you talked to him last year, did he go into specifics?

I'm looking at their site and I don't see a system for a 200-6. Where's it hiding?

I've heard that Edelbrock makes a kit that's almost a direct bolt on for the 200 cid. I think that it's technically supposed to be for the J**p. I will see if I can find the link to the thread about it.

Here's some good information for a TBI setup.

The biggest obstacle to overcome with the small six is getting fuel and air through that low flow manifold. I've been wondering if you could add EFI to an "Offy" triple carb manifold. That would push some in there!

If you were willing to do all the work to install one of the Offy intake mods, you are just as well equipped to make a mod that simply allows a larger diameter single throttle body be installed.

I followed a similar philosophy when I made the custom EFI intake for the flathead V-8 EB; I could buy aftermarket multi-carb intakes all day long but instead I modified a factory single carb intake to have a much larger intake area and the mounting for a single larg(ish) throttle body.

That said...a multi-stack EFI setup would sure look cool. I was working on an 8-body setup for a 428 years ago, basing it on one I saw some Australian guy was selling for Clevelands.

In the long run The classic inlines aluminum head with TBI will probably be cheaper, easier, and more efficient. But the thought of a one-off Offy EFI is intriguing.
