Msd is not necessary. Autozone is poop. I find it unlikely you got a bad tfi from the yard though it is possible. How about napa or ford for tfi and stator? Personally i would go back to yard.

Sorry I didn't get here before 5 broncodriver, or I would have said you could have one from us by tomorrow when the Brown truck delivers. Of course, since you're going back to school tomorrow too, even that might not have been enough.

We sell the Pertronix Flamethrower model here: http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Pertronix_TFI_Module
And while I can't claim that they're more reliable out of the box than any other specific brand, I haven't heard of any issues with them yet. Have several friends running them with no trouble.

Back to yours though, is it possible that the ECM relay isn't getting power or has failed? I'm guessing it's getting power, since it shares the same Red power wire from the starter relay/battery + that the other relays do. And since you have fuel pressure you have power to that wire. But if the splice for the different relays has failed, or some other part of that circuit between the relay and ECM, wouldn't that cause an issue like this?
Seems to me that if that was the case you might get a temporary spark while you're cranking, so it seems like it wants to start, but then fails when you let off the key. Could that be what yours is doing?

Just grasping at straws here, but worth asking I figure.

I haven't tried the tach yet, I used the guide that was posted and it said that it's either the stator or the TFI. Ordered the dizzy and hopefully that fixes it.

And I bet the wildhorses would have been the cheaper way but I should be getting it tomorrow at some point. Going back home for the weekend to see if it fixes it. Fingers crossed!

I am interested in the verdict on this as well because I have had very similar issues with my EFI conversion. Recently I am ready to put a stick of dynamite in the tank and walk away. I just don't feel that the truck is reliable/trustworthy to take on a LONG road trip.

Now I am running a pretty cheap summit dizzy that I bought and could this be the CRAP that is causing the problem???? Like they say, you get what you pay for! I guess that I have to check some things!
