Say - where do you get that white bracket holding down your PCM?

So no mounting bracket needed if mounted above the heater. It is just stuffed up there and held in place with a padding of some kind. I suppose that it is best to get it up and running first, and then spend the time finalizing the EEC installation.

;)

Personally I didn't see the need to "mount it" as i just wrapped the ends with 1" closed cell tape/wrap and it wedged into that spot great. its not moving. Also i figured with just the ends wrapped that will leave the rest of the metal exposed to let heat dissipate better, others have wrapped it in foil or other such heat reduction material to keep the heat from it.

The only concern that others have is the fact sometimes the cowl likes to leak on some rigs, so some people wrap it in water proof material or mount it to the dash to keep it away from the cowl/firewall area. my cowl is sealed pretty well so I'm not too worried about it getting wet or anything.

Are there any heat dissipation issues with the EEC unit?

I haven't had any issues yet. I've been running mine this way for a few months now. I've taken one long road trip (500mi. round trip) to the mountains, wheeled all weekend and drove home with no issues. I have to say that mine is also not exactly "mounted" in that location. It is stuffed/jammed between the the cowl and the heater box. A secure, permanent mount is on the list of things to do.;D

Does anyone have a measurement of how long, wide and high the EEC is with the cable connector plugged in? Just trying to size things up here.

Thanks

I mounted mine vertically to the back of the glove box. Had to section the glove box to make it shallower front to back, but I didn't care since the only thing I've ever kept in there is the reg and insurance cards and a few spare fuses. The nice thing about this is that it is out of the way, but easy to get at if it ever needs to be replaced (no need to drop the heater).

Oh, and those white plastic brackets are a dime a dozen at the junkyard from any domestic Ford of the EEC era. There are several different versions for different mounting positions, but they all fit the same computer chassis.

Nope, not so far anyway

OK good. I am thinking that under the dash above the heater is the best location for it. I like Scoop's location as well, maybe on the kick panel.

I need to get in there and see what's what to make the determination.

Thanks!

20 bucks I'm going junkin' and under cut him by $5 ;D

Nice...Then you can throw it in with the harness tape. ;D

Seriously though, I am thinking that bracket is going to be necessary, so if you get one let me know.

Thanks for the reply Ransil...Since I moved away from Pittsburgh (and your garage), I have been desperately trying to not return to my old Half A$$ way of doing things. It's been a long road, but I am pretty happy with most of my solo work, but things get involved and my Bronco spare time is short, and I have done some things that I am not too proud of. Bad things...things that we shall not speak of...Err..uh...Nevermind...Thanks for the intervention...Now please send me that bracket! ;D

I posted this yesterday, but now I can't find it. Here is where we mounted mine. There is an angle mounted to the firewall and then a swing arm from the cowl. It's high, dry, and easily accessible.

So this would be invisible from inside and up behind the dash? Hard to gauge where it is from picture. Any more pix of the swing arm?

Was looking at your build thread. Very nice work!

I don't have any pics of the swing arm..it was just a piece of 1" wide 1/8" flat stock that we bent a couple 90's in and bent it up to make it firm. I will look tonight to see if I can get a better pic.

It is in the middle of the firewall. You can see where the floor brakes down to the pass floor facing you and the far side is the drivers floor.

Thanks for the compliment on the build! :)

Here is a pic I took tonight that shows the lever arm. I forgot that we built a sheet metal box that wraps the computer, but don't know if that was really necessary. There is foam between the box and eec that gives it a litle cushion since this is 100% offroad and takes a lot of good hits.

OK, now I see it. That looks pretty solid and out of the way. I like it.

Thanks for following up.

Lots to think about now.

Here is how I mounted mine. It fits in that spot by a knat's @$$ between the kick panel, E-brake assy, & fresh air vent. The plastic mount bracket is from a full size van.

The Bronco Connection sells a nice new computer with a four wire harness. They mount it on the firewall right behind the engine. It's a water proof sealed unit with rubber mounts to reduce vibration. Pretty nice!

Interesting. I looked at the website, but cannot find the computer that you speak of. Any links would be helpful.

Thanks!
