I didnt pick up on the fact that your engine has been modified. The the others said with SD you need to be very close to stock for everything to work correctly.

Here is a link to the fuel injection swap artice that RJM did for Bronco Driver, if you scroll down to the section about computers and 1984-1990 cars it explains this.

http://fordfuelinjection.com/Inject_your_horse2.pdf

If you have the stuff to switch to mass air then thats going to be the best bet to get the thing up and running. Not sure how MAF will handle all the modification you have done but it will be a hell of a lot better then SD.

I guess I'll have to say screw the SD setup & install the MAF setup. still waiting on the 19lb injectors to show up from ebay but I seem to have everything else. just a matter of swapping pins in the harness connector. where can I get the computer flashed to non HO firing order?? that has been my main hold up for the MAF conversion..

I just swapped the pins on the puter so my firing order was right.. I am running a non HO 302 from an 87' pick up. Runs like a champ with MAF... I am only using 12 wires from the stang harness... Do plan to put the O2 sensors in the system, but it runs great for trail riding etc.. If I try to run down the highway at 60+ I can tell the puter is in default mode, but 99% of the time I am on trails etc and you never notice the issue.. have had it this way for almost two years... Just my $.02

I would do what Cajun did, at least until you are sure the MAF setup will take care of your problems. That should save you a little money in the short term and get you up an running more quickly. After that I would contact hypertech and see if they can do it for you since the computer already has their chip in it.

Hypertech won't do it, already talked to them. but I'll swap the injector wiring for now. hopefully it will go much better than the SD one did..

From what I've read and been lead to believe swapping the injector wiring to compensate for different firing order will really screw things up (someone correct me if I'm wrong here). You may not have to reflash just to install MAF, if your already using a non ho computer.

I have read the same. Here is a link to the wite up explaining why you SHOULD NOT change the injector fireing order, but instead just leave it alone and as its mentioned in the write up you might notice a slight roughness at idle but at higher RPM you would not be able to notice.

I'm just full of feaking links %) .

too late, just got done changing the pins in the wiring harness to match the thunderbird computer & swapped the pins to make the correct firing order. I have everything in except the 19lb injectors (they havn't arrived yet). I started it up & actually idles around 700rpm instead of 1000-1300 rpm. seems slow to react when I stab the throttle though. might be the injectors or an old maf sensor. anyways I'm getting a bunch of codes I'll share with you all.
KOEO
552-secondary air injection bypass circuit failure
558-EGR vacuum regulator circuit failure
565-canister purge circuit failure
569-auxilary canister purge circuit failure
Memory
113-Intake air temp sensor above max voltage
118-coolant temp sensor above max voltage
122-TPS below min voltage
123-TPS above max voltage
212-loss of ignition diagnostic monitor input to spark output circuit grounded
337-EGR vavle position or temp sensor above max voltage
KOER
116-coolant temp higher or lower than expected
172-lack of heated O2 switches indicates lean bank 1
136-lack of heated O2 sensor switch during KOER indicates lean bank 2
213-Spark output circuit open
332-EGR flow insufficient

I guess I'll have to re-check the wiring again & put in those 19lb injectors..

Wow, I am not even sure where to begin. First off I would fix the coolant temp sensor. It is a major input to fuel pulse width. Without having both sets of schematics in front of me its hard to guess at the rest. The spark output should be easy to fix, if that is not working correctly the engine will always be at base timing. That may be the reason for the sluggish throttle response.

well, I know the 213 spark output fault is because I had the spout unplugged. the tps turned out to be @ 1.5v @ idle & the manual says .5v @ idle so I have to fix that. not sure about the ECT & IAT faults yet though, may be wiring because they worked with the last computer.. I'm sure havnig the right injectors will solve the lean problem also.. hopefully this weekend it will be up & running like a champ..

First, dont put the tps at 0.5V. It should be around 0.9v but do not go above 1.0V. The ECT should be wired the same so maybe the 116 was just because the truck wasnt fully warmed up when you ran the test. I think once you get the injectors in and let it warm up for a while it will probably be OK. Keep us informed!

Part of my problem was a loose wire for signal return to the computer (TPS voltage went back up to 4.9v@idle, 2.8v when I plugged in my scanner,& 1.5volts when I turned the scanner on) & the right 02 sensor wires were melted to my headers. fixed those problems but still waiting on my injectors to show up..

HURRAY!!! ok, I FINALLY got my injectors today!! seems like I've been waiting forever. I installed them & welded up the EGR port on the bottom side of the upper manifold while it was off. started it up & let it idle for about 1/2 hour. drove it around the block & it was backfiring out of the tailpipe above 3500 rpm. checked codes, nothing major except 172 & 176 for lean condition. started it up again & drove it around the block a second time & it seemed to run much better all the way to 6000 rpm. gonna drive it again tomorrow to make sure everything still drives good & test it off road saturday..!! thanx guys for all your help.

Glad you got it working. The lean codes could be caused because of the injector rewire. Might want to change it back to stock inj fireing order and see if the codes go away.
