electric fan for mustang serp setup

As I am researching I see that some of the issue with running a mustang serp setup is clearance for fan/radiator. I plan to run an electric fan. Exactly how much clearance is between the water pump pulley and radiator? A picture of a working setup and fan choice would be great. I'd really like to make a mustang setup work. But, would consider the explorer setup. I plan to run a saginaw power steering pump, no AC, no smog if that helps in my decision.

Thanks!

Which Mustang serpentine set up are you planning on running I'm assuming it's the pre 94' if so I think the same fan I am running will work but not sure. I have a 95' set up on mine with this fan and have about a inch of clearance.

Maybe someone else will have a better answer if you are going with the pre 94' as I know the 94-95' is just about the same length as the explorer version.

Good electric fans take up as much or more room than a mechanical fan.
Most aftermarket fans are junk. CFM ratings are "free air", not actually working to move air through the radiator core. If it were a care stereo they are publishing peak watts, not RMS watts. To that most good electric fan setups come from productions cars. Taraus, PT cruiser turbo, and others that are designed to actually move enough air to keep a modern car (with A/C running) cool. These fans can usually keep a Bronco cool. But they do still work hard to do so, often pulling 40 Amps of current to make the (electric) horsepower needed to move enough air.

Lots of us have tried electric fans in the past. I still have one sitting in the garage that I took off. I have pictures of that fan setup somewhere. I even ran it for about a year. It sucked the whole time. Never had a good cooling package until I went mechanical.

My question was related to the clearance issues as Im new to the bronco, not the ability of an electric fan. Currently in another car I run a 500+ HP 408W with electric fan. Sit in dead stopped 100 degree traffic without issue. There is more to it than just the fan.

My serp setup is 87-93 Fox mustang. Any pictures or clearance numbers would be appreciated. Thanks

The one I listed should fit I did mock up the early Mustang serpentine set up first but had the full 94-95' set so I went with it. The early one is about 3/4" to a 1" longer and I have a 1" of clearance so you might have to offset the fan motor a little from the water pump end but it should fit. The nice thing about this fan is it is a two speed fan like many of the current car production ones and it does put out a lot of cfm I do agree its not as high as a production car fan but it cools a 351w no problem.
Keep an eye on Amazon or eBay as you can pick this fan up there if you want to save a little not trying to pull away any sells from are vendors. I bought mine on Amazon because every dime I save means one more part I can get for somewhere else on this money pit;) here's the actual part number hayden automotive 3817.

Many points to consider but sitting in traffic idling with a 408 in a car is a LOT different than a Bronco climbing over rocks and working the engine at the same temperature...night and day comparison.

Like several have said, most if not all aftermarket fans (excluding a few SPAL fans) have trumped up "peak-to-peak" cfm ratings just like cheeep car stereo amps... not real world numbers.

I think you might need to go with the Exploder serp for more clearance. My Tauras fan setup on my very healthy 418 has less than a 1/2" clearance to the wtrpump and that's because the elect motor is offset in the fan shroud on a Tauras. I'm not even sure it's going to work but I'll know by next weekend as I'm trying it out (2 day test so far) and next weekend we will have highs over 105F...that should be a good test...and I will try it going uphill on a 8-10% grade that is over 5 miles long and I'll be going about 5-10mph so no real extra 'push" like you get going down the road at 25+mph.

Hope this helps some.

I'll report back with updates. I also plan on putting my newly modified fan shroud and Exploder fan back on in case the Tauras fan can't handle it. I have 3 Mark VIII fans sitting around also but i have to do some radiator support mods to make it fit and I dont' have time right now... That would be the ultimate test. Ron Davis used to use Mark VIII fans back when other options weren't available...now they use SPAL.
