Have an electric puller fan on my original 302 .30 over with rv cam, headers. It has the explorer front dress so the fan fits barely, but my question is what thermostat range should I go with, 185/170 or 200/185?

The coolant thermostat or the electric fan thermostat?

Which fan did you go with?

It takes a heluvalot of cfm to adequately cool an eb sometimes.

I'd prefer the 200/185 myself, but is this carbureted or fuel injected?
I like to see the hotter temps usually, unless you need to keep things cooler.

Good luck. Hopefully it's a big-ass fan. Sometimes it's not the lack of fan though, as much as it is the overbore and cam and tuning. Or poor gearing, but yours looks to be pretty good if it's got the 4.88's in your signature?

Have you run the engine yet, or is this a brand new setup?
Good luck.

Explorer front dress, the Explorer fan will cool better.

IF doing a thermostatic switch for an electric fan, neither of those. I put a temp sensor on the cold side of the radiator. Something like a 160/140. Think about when you need a fan. You DON'T need one at operating temperature if the radiator has enough ram air at cruising speed. You only need the fan when you need to force air through the radiator. And that is only when the water leaving the radiator is too warm.

I've noticed in the past couple of years that the OEMs are now putting a temp sensor on the cold side, to control the cooling fan. No need to run the fan if the radiator is doing its job without it.

It is carbureted, and yes its a big electric fan and yes the sig line is accurate. My plan was to run the explorer fan, but my explorer donor fan disappeared and the radiator I picked up came with the electric already to go. I figured since I had it, I would give it a try. My first bronco had 351 with a mechanical fan and it always ran good temps while rolling, but on the trail or stop and go it would get up there real quick so I thought the electric might be a good thing to try.

I'm still a fan of electric fans. No denying that many EB owners have had trouble keeping their Broncos cool with one under all conditions, but there are plenty out there with good results as well.
Worth a try for sure, especially if that's whatcha got.

Let us know how it works out. Got any specifications on the fan itself by any chance? Or was it already installed and as-is?

I have a champion 5.0 conversion radiator, I never looked at the fan model, but it came with the radiator when I picked it up new off craigslist. It’s almost the full heighth of the radiator and came with the shroud. I got a good deal on the radiator and the guy through in the fan and shroud, like Ibsaid beforenI had planned on the explorer clutch fan but it disappeared so I’m giving this a try. I ordered a 200-185 switch.
