I did the same thing you did. Bought a used motor that the PO said was rebuild put in a truck then the truck was wrecked 2500 miles later so it a good strong engine. It all looked good so I just dropped it in. It ran fine but had no oil pressure pulled it back out. Turns out the cam bearings were split it half, the main bearings looked like shiny new pennies and the heads were shot. I bit the bullet and rebuild it right like I should have the first time. At least I know where I stand now. I look at it as a learning experience as now I am confident on doing my own engine work.
