Solid concrete floors are to hard on my back and feet. We just did a complete make over in our house and removed all the carpet and replaced with planking and tile. I have to wear slippers now 😒
Ours is always cold, socks at a minimum. We did put an area rug where the couches are, made a huge difference sitting. On the upside it’s easy to clean lol

We looked at that. Everyone I talked to brought up our insane temp swings, about anytime but middle of summer, it is not uncommon to be 30 today and 90 tomorrow then 20 on day 3. Makes it really hard to keep everything happy.
If I build something in the midwest I want to try some radiant heat. Maybe not 100% since I know I will need A/C, so there will be forced air. Thinking a hybrid system might be the solution. Dreams anyway.

I helped a friend do Epoxy on a new house. Did 2 coats of 2-part. Mixed sand in the second coat for traction. Didn't help. Wet tires were still like ice. The sand just made it worse to wipe stuff up.

@Broncobowsher just a little further north I would have been all for it. Mid Kansas and north I think would be fine. That’s only 125 miles north of here.

I have no regrets or feel the need to change anything. Love not having to worry about tracking stuff in and the easy cleanup.

I've built 2 houses with radiant in cold climates. While I don't deal with that wild of a swing I can say like any heating system, when it gets above the temperature setting it's not kicking in an becomes a non issue.

Grabbing warm tools all winter and the quick heat recovery after opening a garage door are a blessing.

Warm tools are nice. I’m more worried about recovery the other direction from April to November. It needs to cool back down 🤣

That's a whole different problem. Mini split time??

To stay on topic, I'm thinking hard about doing the polished concrete on the next place. I've been around a couple of the other types and welding and grinding always seems to be a problem plus we have the mag chloride to deal with.

Mini splits rock in the garage. Put a pair in almost 3 years ago. Prior house had a split system and house before that had a package unit. Live in AZ and got spoiled on garage A/C. Of the different solutions, I prefer the mini splits.

Since then I have installed a couple at work. And have been tapped for info for a handful of co-workers who put them in there garages as well.

But, mine are not low temp units. They don't heat very well. I have seen them that can do a good job of heating, just have to get one that is rated for low ambient temps. Not something that I really care about in AZ.

Friend had a salvage yard. They changed out the A/C units for mini splits. Kept the place cold. Loved them. Saved on the power bill. If one dies, they still have another. A whole new unit can be in and running in a couple hours.
