I ran an 3" electric cutout on my old mustang, dumped right before the cat. Sounded great when opened and worked great because it was turbo-charged and I wasn't concerned with back pressure.

I would love to have a system on the Bronco that was quiet when you wanted and you could make it loud when you wanted. I've contemplated running a single exhaust system with two pipes out the back, with two different mufflers (loud/quiet), and have the electric cutout control which pipe the exhaust flows through. I have not looked into the routing so I don't even know if it's feasible.

I leave super early in the morning for work so if I do a loud exhaust my neighbors would be pissed. But at the same time I love hearing my engine scream.

Does anyone have a single 3" setup with headers? I"m interested in going that route to avoid having the drivers side pipe hanging below the frame...

yep, i got a 3" magnaflow (24" long case) with headman elite headers. i got a 2" Y pipe exiting behind the rear tire. real mellow at idle, manageable going down the road, but mean sounding when you get on it.

BTW that's not smoke, it's 35* outside right now.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
The info and pics were exactly what I was after!

At any point - does your exhaust ever drop below the frame rails up front? I'm trying to avoid that...

maybe 3" on the driver side because of the header design. they''re all gonna droop down there unless you use shortys from like BC or WH. you're still gonna have to go either above or below the front driveshaft. with a set of shortys you could go under the oil pan behind the drainplug.

and you're welcome!;)

I guess I'm not to worried about the exhaust coming down low where the radius arms would protect them... I'm kinda thinking of what is going to hit when I break over a steep hill or drop off a ledge. I'm going to build a custom skid plate that will cover the transfercase and transmission so I can slide over most things... Thanks for that last pic - how do you like those headers?
Oh man does that sound badass!

This is the PO in my '69 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9kmztQ4CHs

Skip to about 40 seconds in to the vid... ignore the hollering... at the end he rev's it up and you can hear the vroom.

I believe it is still carb in this vid, however now it is EFI.
Old James Duff long headers in to glass packs, duals out each side, no crossover pipe.

I've done a tonne of work on it since this vid - but it still sounds the same. Intially, I wanted something quieter - but now I love it, and my kids love it, so to hell with anyone who thinks it's too loud.
Actually, it idles quiet and calmly - but when you get on the skinny, everyone around knows you're getting on it.

Keep in mind that cam shafts also make some differance in the overall sound of a exhuast system. So even 2 exhuast systems may be the same the engine itself may not be and can make a difference but it should be fairly close. I tried recording my exhuast a couple years ago and got the same results as others kinda boring didnt sound like my bronco. Now a few more years back I was playing in a snow covered a gravel pit and friends were taping it that video did sound pretty good but then again I was in the throttle a lot.

What about the exhaust in McQueen's Mustang in Bullett?

YOU know the sound I'm talking about.... what did they put in the 'stang to make it growl like that?

It seems like exhaust systems comes up quite often, and one of the main questions people have is 'how does it sound'? I think it would be awesome if you guys with various exhaust systems could post either a wave file, or a youtube link of just how these different systems sound.

I know personally I'm most interested in hearing the complete BCB system, at idle, cruise, and WOT.

I think this would help solve a lot of questions...

So please post up.

I have a 90 HO mustang efi motor with BCB shorty headers and complete 2 1/2" exhaust w magnaflow muffler it sounds good.It sounds better than flowmasters I think. It is BCB 2 into 1 set up 3" outlet mine dumps right above the axle

Don't have any sound to post up, but it sounds sweet when you nail it but is still semi quiet at idle and low rpm. 5.0 out of a Saleen, WH shorties, and a Magna flow Magna pak.

I agree, most all of the sound energy (90% ) is below 100hz. Most microphones on cameras and such are filtered above that for wind & machinery noise reduction. recording would have to be done with the proper equipment.

here at my work I reconstructed a car (minus engine and wheels) in an office and filled it with speakers & subwoofers to recreate road and car noise for testing purposes. The big rig diesel recordings are pretty cool. they shake the whole building.

hey justin you need to do that for a harley for old people like me who dont want ride on the road call it garage harley experienc the feel with out the road danger;D

back on topic sorry for previous hijack search on the muffler companies, most have sound bites on their web page, not perfect but will give you an idea. if they are cutting 100hz like justin said then that really affects the sound cause 100hz is the bottom end sound, below a 100 is what you feel because of the sound waves it makes, like the boom boom cars
