I have the serpentine pulley set up for an explorer. I recently bought a new alternator for a 2000 explorer I am now installing a Ron Francis wiring harness. The harness alternator connection has a large d shape 3 wire connector that plugs into the alternator. It also has a 1 wire connector but the alternator does not have a place for the single wire connector. Is this additional wire needed or do I have the wrong alternator? The single wire connector is attached to the three wire connector center wire

Thanks

I believe you are talking about the below...

The 4G Alt only needs 3 wires hooked up:
The Battery lead of the proper gauge, generally with a fuse of 150 amps
The Green/red strip which is the field wire > from your wiring harness.
The Yellow, which is the voltage sensing wire. They suggest that it be hooked directly to the battery (+) terminal, but it works by hooking it the Batt terminal on the Alt.
The White/black Stator wire is not used. I usually just put some Marine grade shrink wrap (lined with a sealing glue) on the end of the wire.
