I may be able to get 1996 F350 w/351W & auto transmission. Would any one of you folks know what type of trans is in there? This vehicle 100 miles away and I won't be able to get the tag information. Would it be an AOD? I have a 69EB that I am working on that I would like to change to an automatic. The engine I am not concern with the engine about because I have a 289 to go in. But the trans I am really interested in. I will check with a local Ford dealer and see what they say-but 1st I rather ask you experts first. Any info is most appreciated. Thank you.

I'm no expert, but here's my 2 cents anyway. A 96 Bronco would have an E4OD. From 90 up the 351s got it. I would think the F250 would too. It's a bigger, heavier, stronger, longer trans than an AOD. Sort of an electronic C-6 with OD. It's computer controlled, so you'd need to provide for that, & the size might make it tough to install in an EB.

The AOD is smaller, & doesn't require the computer control. The AOD came behind 302s for awhile, but by 96 I think even the 302s used the E4OD.

Thinking about it, FSB's Tranny Info thread would have more details. I hope you don't mind the crossover between forums. If they could check the door sticker for you, it looks like the AOD would have a door sticker trans code "T", while the E4OD would show "E".

Since you are asking the same question in different posts...

Either an E4OD or a C6. You will need to look for an O/D off button. If it is there, E4OD, if not (and a vacuum line to the trans) then it is a C6.

It is not the transmission you are looking for.

yes, it could be a C6, '96 was the last year for that transmission. I was surprised when I found that out as well.

Well I found out is a C6 not with overdrive. Not sure if I should put the 351W in with it. I have a 289 I rather use. Most likely I have to buy the engine with the 351W. I will keep searching the treads for folks that swap a 6 cyclinder for the 351W. Some indications are that their may clearence height and exhaust clearence problems. Thanks for all who commented. You and this site have been a great help. This is a great FORUM
