Fan Shroud and Engine Fan not Aligning.

I bought a new, unused TBP fan shroud from a fellow member about a year ago. Just got to the point on the project to install it and they do not line up. I have tried mocking up with aftermarket, and stock fans. The fan is always up about 1/2 to 3/4" too high and maybe the same too far towards the pass side. I have checked the measurements on the radiator placement on the front core with another bronco and that is ok. I also checked with Jason at TBP and based on the dimensions of the shroud it appears to be a legit TBP product.

So what the hell is the issue here with alignment?? Did a PO do something with the engine mounts I am missing?? Clearance is great on both sides of the 302. Thought maybe someone else may have experienced this issue?
Maybe shroud is for 351? How can I tell.

thx

Motor mounts

Maybe you have HD motor mounts. They seem to raise the motor a little.

302-351 should be the same

AFAIK, the 5.8L WP is positioned the same as the 5.0L. But if it was different, the 5.8 shroud would be higher than the 5.0 pump/fan - not the other way, like yours.

What condition is the truck in, what are you doing to it right now, and what mods does it already have? Is the trans bolted up to the engine & Xmbr? Has any part of the driveline been raised or lowered? Has the frame been modified? What condition are the engine/trans/BODY mounts in? Have you centered the body on the frame?

Extreme motor mounts? They are known for being a bit taller, raises the whole engine.
What waterpump? I did a nice aluminum waterpump once only to find it sits a little taller. There are (at least) two different waterpump shaft centerline heights.
Another one I have ran into is the front body mounts, the body will drop onto the frame. Not so much the rubber itself failing but the sheetmetal between the core support and the inner fenders that the body mount attaches to. Directly under the heavy battery.

So overall this Bronco is still in pre-resto condition as far as the body goes. No lift, body mounts/bushings are still original so I am assuming that can be contributing to the issue. It also appears to have been in a front end accident at one point so again based on member comments this can be another contributing factor. Fan shroud is for non-lifted trucks. Motor mounts are stock. The water pump is stock, casted non-aluminum, from Napa. The height issue seems plausible with sagging etc but the horizontal alignment makes no sense. The clearance issue to the pass. side.

6 cl motor mounts? is the shroud for a body lift?
To my knowledge no to both, how can you tell if the mounts are 6cyl (dimensional differences?) and would a 302 even bolt into 6 cyl mounts? It is a 74, did they still produce them with I6's in 74?

Engine & trans are bolted up proper, no ideas on frame mods, everything still look stock. I have not pulled the body off the frame yet so couldn't comment on the alignment that way although again I am guessing that could be a contributing factor.

If your car started out with a six cyl then modified for V8 mounts, the the alignment may have been sloppy. I've seen it happen. That mod was pretty common and some people just don't follow the directions and measure properly.

Mine was hit in the front before I bought it. Never gave it a thought since it was a drivable vehicle, but upon installation of a new radiator, I discovered that the radiator mounts didn't allow the new one to sit right and had to relocate three of them to get the assembly to align properly. I'm not saying that is your issue, but it is just another thing to consider.

I've never tried swapping engine mounts between engine types - I was just brainstorming.
There are (at least) two different waterpump shaft centerline heights.
Then the timing cover would have be changed, too, because the back of the WP is embedded in it. But AFAIK, both timing covers place the pump shaft in the same location because the fan shroud on FS trucks & Broncos didn't change when the V-belts went to serp.

Did you end up with a solution? Replaced radiator and shroud this weekend and I'm having the exact issue. The fan is about 1/2" to tall and too narrow on passenger side. Truck is all stock too.

TBP fan shroud

I had the same problem with my 74'. Stock everything with no other indications of misalignment. I had to modify the shroud for it to work. No big deal, just sometimes "bolt-ons" aren't always "bolt-ons".
