I'm using fel-pro 1250s3 intake gaskets on my 302 with weiand aluminum intake, my question is even though the gaskets don't have exhaust crossover holes in them do I still use the block offs that came in the package?

You're right there isn't a hole for the inserts. Mine didn't come with the inserts. I think the inserts that came with the 1250 are part of the splitting problem. The inserts are thicker than the main gasket and harder too. I think the hard inserts keep the main gasket from squishing properly. If you don't have the heat riser ports, don't worry about it.

The exhaust is going to burn the gasket through at that point. I like to block off the port with a piece of .004" stainless shim stock glued to the intake side of the gasket.

Shouldnt be a issue the 1250s3 use a steel core unlike the standard 1250 gaskets so the exhuast shouldnt burn through.

I ran the Fel Pro 1250s3's with an aluminum intake on stock heads. Truck ran terrible. Switched to the Edelbrock gaskets (had the port opening). Truck ran great, problem solved.

Edelbrock Part number 7220

Probably had a vacuum leak. The only thing the exhuast crossover port does is heat up the intake manifold quicker. Blocking may just make for longer warmups but doesnt affect overall running.
