I'm looking at the FelPro 2901 Fluoroelastomer compound rear main seal. It's much more expensive than the regular seal, is it worth the money? I don't race it but sometimes I like to get on it. I just don't want to be replacing the seal for a while and was thinking since it's a high performance seal, it'll last longer in a mild use application. Thanks

For $30 bucks I would just do it.
Who wants to do a rear main seal twice, yuk...

This is my second attempt. I put the regular one in and it's started dripping again (I've checked everywhere else btw) and think I want to give it a shot

Have you got this book?
It goes into detail how to replace that seal.

The biggest install failure is sealing between the rear main cap and block.
1. Clean the surfaces "oil free" with lacquer thinner, acetone, or Chemtool.
2. Use an anaerobic sealant. Not just RTV.
3. Clock the seal halves so one side sticks out of the block about 3/8", and the opposite side of the cap sticks out the same.

Get the book!

I did all of that, I had a clogged breather and it caused too much crank case pressure. I replaced the clogged breather and put the pcv back on but it's still leaking a little so I'm just going to replace it. Thanks

What cost more the difference in the price of the seal or pulling the trans again

I've never had a standard one fail, but if you have severe service, it wouldn't hurt.
Installation is still the important part.

Also, never, never use sealant between the seal and the block. You'll never be able to remove it without pulling out the crank.

Just ordered it, Advanced is selling them for 26 bucks, cheapest I've found so far (oreilly, amazon, jegs, summit, etc). Thanks for all the help
