Flush mount windshield?

On a different thread in the Chat, there was mention of flush mounting the front windshield so you can eliminate the wrap around gasket. A search only found one thread that mentioned it...anyone else do this? Some comments mentioned the any flex could be an issue, but otherwise, is it just glued into the frame? Any one with good pics of this? Can't say I've ever noticed any like this before.

Thanks

You have to have the glass custom cut, and paint about 1.5" around the edge.

I did it and love it! Dropped the frame off before paint for measurements and then brought it back after paint for install

Also lets you tuck the wipers up as high as possible. Ive flexed the Bronco a little and been offroading and no issues.

That's how I found my post from 4 yrs ago Jon...and only 2 others. I used the exact search words. :)

I'm starting to use Google search and then insert "Classic Broncos" at the end.

I painted the back side of the glass to match the frame and the glass wizard color-matched the caulk. In 20/20 hindsight, I might have gone for tinted glass. Oh well, next time, if there is a next time. Howard in beautiful West Michigan

Howard2x4x4...

What options are there for tint? My only option I was told was green tint for a windshield by my local (45miles away) windshield shop...

Looks good!

Nvrstuk, I was not offered any tint by the installer, and I only thought of it after the fact. I've seen a few places offering tint on Fakebook Marketplace and might check them out eventually.

Thanks... could you have the same tint company put a narrow border around the outside edge to cover the glued part on the inside?

Any reason this wouldn't work on the other window openings in the hardtop?

Wondering if maybe the flanges don't have enough surface area?

Might be kind of cool!

I've thought doing all three in the hard top would be cool. Also figured it would work fine and assumed that the flanges were sufficient in the hard top. But I've never actually measured them to be sure.

Seems fixable even if they're not. A little welding around the perimeter and you're good.
I bet it would "tighten up" the top a bit too.

Dirtdonk, I think it would be very easy to do and surprised someone here hasn't done it yet.

I am stuck right now with deciding to put the trim back on my windows or going this route.

Same here. No big on one Bronco because it never had the trim. Just the rubber. But the other one, which did not have it originally either, has had a nice later hard top swapped on to it with most of the chrome intact.
Have always liked the highlights, so would hate to lose my only chance at having the bling.

What kind of glass shop can provide windshield glass? I'd love to do this, but I'm not sure who to talk to locally.
