I think this makes sense. When I mated the 4r70w to my 351w, I used the explorer starter. The bronco starter did not engage correctly. I think it makes sense to get the 10r80 starter

Then you had a weird starter or flex plate offset (and there are a couple of those) because when I ran my 4r behind my 351W well over a decade ago, I used the same starter I had in there for years. NO issue for fit or operation. I'm still using the same starter on my 6r80.

Must have. I tried three different starters. For the bronco And for the 87 f150 it came out of. I was at junk yard and grabbed an explorer starter and it’s been good for 10 years. I don’t know.

My guess is mixing of starters for manuals vs. automatics. But without a background, it is only a guess.

That could have been it. I went from 3 on the tree to the auto. Anyway, 10r80 that is behind the coyote has a 2 bolt starter. The 10r140 behind the Godzilla is 3 bolt. So I ordered a spacer plate and starter for the coyote 10r80. I will report back. What I am finding is the people doing the swaps are all trying to develop and sell kits so they are not helpful on the ford part numbers. I will try to keep track and post them.

I haven’t started my Godzilla yet, but I believe I’m using the Godzilla spacer plate (LC3Z-7007-A) with the 6R80 inspection cover and the Godzilla starter. You need the Godzilla spacer plate because it has holes where the engine’s bolts are (not referring to the bolts that connect the engine to the transmission). I tested the inspection cover for the 10R140, but it didn’t fit.

As for the starter, I would think you’d want one that is designed to start the large Godzilla engine. As I’m using the Godzilla spacer plate, it should line up just fine.

I believe that Power by the Hour can help with a godzilla control pack.

I also don't understand why Ford would sell the crate engine but not have a control pack available for it...???

I just looked up the starter on an f150 for a 2015 (6480) and then a 2020 (10r80). 10r80 is a two bolt starter and 6r80 is three bolt. 10r140 is also 3 bolt. Since I am 10r80, I can’t use a three bolt starter. That is why I think I have to have the spacer plate and starter for 2020 f150 that matches the transmission.
