Fuel gauge or sending unit?

While out at the dunes during NWBR I looked at my fuel gauge and thought dam guess I used more fuel than I thought while on the dunes. Went to fill it up and only 5 gallons to fill. later it was on E and I filled it up with 9-10 gallons and it showed full. Going along maybe 1-3 gallons I notice it lower than it should be. It then got to 1/2 tank reading and dropped to empty.

My thought is that the sending unit has gone bad. What do you all think?

What fuel tank do you have ? { I recently installed a 23 gal aftermarket and had to take A LOT of the bend out of the float arm to get it even close to reading accurate }
Have you checked the ground wires ?

I have the 23 gal NWMP. It has been in there for about 5-6 years and has been pretty accurate. When I saw it initially sitting on E I thought possibly wiring, but now not so sure. I have not had a chance to mess with it because of playing catch up around the house after NWBR.

Are you still using the tank selector switch? Mine has started acting up on me causing similar issues. If I give the switch a little wiggle it'll start reading correctly.
